Jungle time part 2! 🌴Jackson had so much fun with the jungle themed sensory bin from 2 weeks ago, I decided to expand on the theme with this simple invitation to play tray.

I absolutely love creating invitation to play stations around our home. A collection of simple materials (can be nature-based or man-made) thoughtfully displayed in a way that allows your child the opportunity to explore, create, investigate, and play. There is no right or wrong. They have the freedom to be inspired by the materials provided or by relating to concepts they’ve learned about in real life.

It’s so beautiful to see how their little brains work.

Jungle time! 🌴🐒 This weekend we imagined we were exploring the lush and lively jungle. An ecosystem I am totally intrigued by and couldn’t wait to introduce Jackson to.

I picked up these little jungle creatures and palm trees from Micheals and then found any other jungle themed items we had along with some books to incorporate a literacy element.

The Little Lift and Look books from Usborne are some of my favourites for toddlers. Large flaps that extend from the page are perfect for little fingers. You follow along a different creature in their habitat and see who they meet along the way. So fun!

Dino themed weekend. 🦕

You can’t go wrong with a dino themed sensory bin! Play sand/dirt, dinos, scoops, and you’re set. I included a literacy component by displaying some books that were used for naming the different dinosaurs 🦖

Anyone else have a dino lover in their house?

As adults, the start of a new year often brings reflection and intention on lifestyle changes/habits we’d like to be more mindful of. I think it’s so important to role model and introduce some of these positive habits/rituals of healthy living to our young children. It sets them up for success later down the road.

Until January 22nd I am offering a discount rate on some of my favourite Usborne wellness themed books for toddlers. These books are perfect for kiddos aged 2.5-5. They are educational, interactive, and comical.

These have limited inventory so if you’d like to scoop up a couple send me a message and I’d be happy to order for you at the discounted rate ☺️

Fiction or non-fiction? What does your child gravitate towards? Jackson loves both but he really enjoys learning about real topics that he can relate to in everyday life. It’s so beautiful when I see him make the connections to something we were reading about to real life.

I really love Usborne’s Beginners series because there are so many topics for young learners to read about. These are a few that we have. They have realistic pictures, are educational, include a glossary of key terms for beginner readers to expand their vocabulary, and include links to more resources about the topic.

Search Beginners series using the link in my profile to see what titles are currently available.

Mamas, ECE’s, OT’s, here are some great books for any potty training kiddo in your life!

I absolutely love the lift-the-flap first question and answers series. There are so many different topics that are based on life skills and they are presented in a fun and interactive way. They are funny and very educational. You will probably learn a thing or two yourself! We read these almost everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. They are great potty books that we read and talk about as Jackson learns to use the potty.

It is a British publishing company so some of the wording I adjust to make to more relatable for Jackson 😂 Diaper instead of nappy, and p*e instead of wee.

There are lots of other titles too. If you’d like to learn more about this series or get your hands on some, feel free to message ☺️

Extra time at home over the holidays means more sensory bin fun!

I call this one the North Pole construction site. Yummy chocolate boulders and marshmallow snowballs to push and move out of the way. Lately, most of our sensory activities end up with trucks and diggers since that’s what Jackson is really interested in. I’m always trying to think of creative ways to use them.

Jackson really enjoyed this one. Mostly because he was able to snack as he played 😉 I used organic cocoa puff balls and vegan peppermint marshmallows but you could use whatever you want! Puffed rice would work really well too as snow!
