Very excited to share this spectacular gem 1951 specimen dollar I recently added to my set.
With this being the first addition of this type in specimen format, I’m really excited to finally cross it off the bucket list.

Ultra deep mirrors and jet black fields make for an incredible fun study piece under glass.
I’ll likely post a reel in the near future showing off how this example plays in the light.

I’d love to hear of any new additions to your collections in the comments!

A wonderful example of this first year of issue specimen. I’ve previously showcased this piece raw as I was preparing it for submission to , but those photos left out the exceptional cameo that this coin possesses.

With help of here’s some lovely photos showcasing this exceptional coin in a new light.

I’d love to hear if you have any Canadian coins dated 1858!

Doesn’t get much frostier than this, tied with two others as finest known.

Should be noted this example is recognized as Specimen by iccs, but pcgs is yet to recognize the type in specimen format.

One of my favourite additions to my collection from the past year, this Proof-Like nickel will commence a series of posts showcasing some of the coins I’ve yet to give time in the spotlight.

Typically I try to include dynamic compositions when doing coin photography, and those style posts will continue when the inspiration strikes, however I’ve got quite a few pieces that I’ve neglected to showcase that I’d like to share.

The 1953 showcased above is one of the finest examples I know of for this particular issue, and the finest I’ve had the opportunity to handle. A scarce type in general when in Proof-Like format, this issue is generally plagued by rust along the edge due to the cardboard cards the sets where issued in. Cameo on the issue is also generally difficult, so this example boasting intense contrast over gem surfaces is nearly unmatched. With only two finer both PL-67, which have been off the market for ages, I’ll be hard pressed to improve this piece for my set.

I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions about this piece in the comments. Many thanks to for the fantastic photos. Be sure to like and follow for more superb Canadian coins!

Almost as iconic as the city itself, The Canadian National Exposition has become the largest annual exposition to run in Canada annually. The success of a small traveling agricultural fair that first landed in Toronto in 1846 was the spark that’s led to this annual Toronto tradition.

Pictured here is a fantastic medal from the 1928 fair. This beautiful medal has unfortunately been oddly difficult to research. With this particular example being awarded to Harold Thomas Miles, for his proficiency on the piano, one could assume this type would have been issued for a multitude of different events. I don’t doubt there are quite a few of this medal floating around, what’s strange however is the lack of information or references to this type online and in archives. Through my search I was only able to find two other examples, both awarded in events separate from the piano noted on my example. I’d love to hear if any of you have handled this type, or have one in your collection!

An undeniably beautiful design, this medal had been engraved by Emmanuel Hahn, a name many of you will have known from his extensive work with the Royal Canadian Mint.

With currently set up until September the 5th, I’m contemplating swinging by and seeing if they can allow me access to some of their archives, which have unfortunately not been transcribed well online. Hopefully allowing some light to be shed on the mystery surrounding this fantastic piece!

Included in my latest batch of submissions to Pcgs is this absolutely stunning 1938 dime. Toning of this sorts never ceases to amaze, especially when it’s showcased on a semi key date exhibiting choice, near gem uncirculated quality. I’ll be sure to post a video of this beast after it’s slabbed, as the beaming lustre over this colour is a site to behold. As toning is always a bit subjective, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this piece, I for one adore the “bullseye” pattern showcased on the reverse!
