Congratulations to Michael Brook on the reissue of Cobalt Blue & Live at the Aquarium.
A rediscovered 4AD classic on vinyl for the first time. Remastered by Rashad Becker and with refreshed artwork by Alison Fielding.
Over a three year period Brook built up the multilayered ambient guitar classic Cobalt Blue in his flat in London, including guest appearances from Brian and Roger Eno, and Daniel Lanois. Before the album’s recording he toured with Jon Hassel, Harold Budd & Laraaji, and later - off the back of this release - with John Cale, as well as David Sylvian & Robert Fripp. Cobalt Blue also caught the ear of Michael Mann, who used ‘Ultramarine’ in Heat (1995) and brought Brook on to contribute to the score.
Live at the Aquarium was recorded at the press launch for the Cobalt Blue album at The Aquarium, London Zoo on 21 May 1992. Captured by Brook himself, as he often did with his rare solo performance, the recording was never originally intended for release.
Out now digitally and on CD/Crystal Clear 2LP.
