Parenting a teenager hits differently…
No one really prepares you for this part.
The part where they slowly stop needing you the way they used to.
No more “Mom, watch me.”
No more tiny hands reaching for yours.
Instead…
you get silence.
Closed doors.
Short answers.
Headphones in.
And sometimes, if you’re not careful,
you start to wonder—
“Did I do something wrong?”
But this is the truth I’m learning…
They’re not pulling away because they don’t love you.
They’re growing into who they’re meant to be.
And your role?
It changes.
You become the quiet place they come back to.
The steady voice in the background.
The one who listens… even when they say nothing at all.
Because behind every
“I’m fine”
is still a child who hopes you’ll stay.
So I stay.
I stay patient.
I stay soft.
I stay available.
Even when I feel shut out.
Even when I miss who they used to be.
Because love, at this stage…
isn’t loud anymore.
It’s choosing connection over control.
It’s holding on… while learning to let go.
And maybe that’s the hardest,
most beautiful part of parenting a teen. 🤍
