Dearest Community,
These past few weeks I have been unlearning, learning, listening, and integrating. I am a white, cis-gendered male, and with that comes an enormous amount of privilege in this world. This privilege has allowed me to create ALIGN. I have a duty to use this privilege to foster allyship and stand for racial justice and truth.
Here is my promise to walk the talk:
1 - Table fees will be on a sliding scale for BIPOC artists, healers, creators, and brands.
2 - A zero-tolerance policy for cultural appropriation. Vendors will be expected to read and sign this policy when submitting their application.
3 - One table will be reserved for local charities and organizations to share their work, free of charge. A portion of proceeds from the market will be donated to that charity.
4 - We will continue to cultivate an environment that is accessible and safe. Our values and mission will be at the forefront of our work. Visitors will be expected to respect these values and our mission.
This is just a start. As ALIGN continues to grow, so will my commitment to use this platform for fighting racism and racial injustice.
I continue to listen and learn. I encourage you to reach out with ideas and suggestions on how ALIGN can be better.
With Gratitude,
Garrett
