A great place to find the perfect Mother’s Day gift!

Please refrain from using the West Bragg Creek trails for at least another week. With rain in the forecast for the whole weekend that should melt the last bit of snow and ice, the area will still need time to dry and firm up. I am seeing a lot of "new trail-crew volunteers" with bikes on their cars heading that way today - please be patient.

Why are the trails so sensitive in the spring to bikes and foot traffic? As the frost comes out of the soil, it saturates the top few inches and makes a slimy and very soft layer of mud. Constant riding/hiking through this mud deepens the ruts and makes a large hole where that mud is. The trails crews then have to work on restoring the trail tread to keep the trails flowey and smooth, and not full of annoying dips and holes. Your muddy rut or boot print will also dry out, and stay as a homage to your muddy tread.
Summer time rain showers are different than spring melt. Summer time rain typically is absorbed into the trail quite quickly, or runs off the surface of the soil as the soil is not in a saturated state like it is in the spring. Damaging mud holes usually don't form just from the occasional summer rainfall This is why spring time is the most important time to avoid muddy trails.

Please see the video in our Instagram bio (and follow us!) for more information about mud, and what to do when you encounter it.

RIDE DIRT NOT MUD

There’s a lot of history around here

There’s a lot of history around here

Historical Throwback 📝 : Any Bragg Creek locals remember the saying “we kill our own snakes 🐍 “? It came from this Elkana Ranch cowboy, Bob Echlin.

Elkana Ranch was a community hub back in the day that had regular barn dances, rodeos, round-ups, and summer camps for kids.

Bob helped form the western roots that define our town today and is still well known around these parts. Let us know in the comments below what you think “we kill our own snakes” means 👇.
