June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada. It’s a special time to turn to the stories recognizing the rich history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

It’s been wonderful to see this section grow every year at the sale—and to have a way for these voices to reach more readers.

📚💫 Did you know that after the last day of our book sale, we open up the floor to community organizations, non-profits and Little Free Library stewards so they can stock up on FREE books?

On May 19, our ‘Unsold Event’ was attended by 89 people, spreading the joy of reading in so many special ways. ✨

✨✨✨Calgary! Thanks to you, this year, we broke records.

✨📘You helped us stuff the trucks and the Calgary Curling Club with books...
✨📘You gave time to help us sort and create this reader’s wonderland
✨📘You walked in the doors beaming, and you left beaming, arms filled with treasures

And with all of that support behind the 22nd Calgary Reads Big Book Sale, we raised the most we’ve EVER raised: $584,400!!! 🙏

Now we can turn those proceeds into supporting local children with reading help, books of their own and early literacy advocacy—because every child has a right to read! 👧🏻📖✨

We share our deep, heartfelt thanks to:

💛The Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown for stewarding the sale, leading our Stuff-a-Truck events, volunteering and cooking up some pretty tasty hot dogs on volunteer appreciation day!
💛Our 1,200 incredible volunteers, super leads/committee members, volunteer coordinator (Dawn!), and co-chairs (Tami and Gail)!
💛The Calgary Curling Club for their amazing staff and support on this 15th year of hosting there!
💛The City of Calgary for their support with traffic and parking control
💛 The media, for helping to spread the word
💛The thousands of you who donated the 200,000+ books that filled the rink (even though it was a little brisk during donation days!
