How do you change the world? No act is too small… this year Victoria brought awareness to her classroom and taught them about down syndrome. Our entire family worked in putting together pictures, sensory play kits, amazing shirts, books, and storytime to get everyone engaged and learning more about the many ways we can all be unique and different. Our Victoria’s work didn’t go unnoticed and her school invited all kids to wear miss-matched socks to show their support! So…how do we change the world? Small acts, being ourselves, and showing our uniqueness to the world without fear.

Happy Birthday to our wonderful and sweet, sweet boy, PIQUITA!

For those of you who are new here or didn’t know, PIQUITA is the nickname of my wonderful nephew (and part owner) of this project.

We chose to name our company PIQUITAS to represent him. Piquitas means children, every single one of those perfect tiny humans that, no matter what, deserve to be loved and helped to reach their fullest potential without the limitations imposed by any society.

Six years ago, we search for help to support his journey, and all we found was prejudices, stereotypes and limitations. We stopped searching or listening to other people’s beliefs on what our little Piquita would be capable of. Instead, we decided to put our hearts and souls into giving him the necessary resources to be a happy and healthy human being capable of reaching his potential to the fullest with no restrictions.

Para aquellos que no lo saben o son nuevos aquí, Piquita es el sobrenombre de mi increíble sobrino (y parte dueño) de este proyecto.

Decidimos llamar a nuestra compañía PIQUITAS en su nombre. Piquitas significa niños, todos y cada uno de esos perfectos pequeños seres humanos que, sin importar que, merecen ser amados y apoyados para alcanzar su mayor potencial sin importar las limitaciones impuestas por la sociedad.

Hace seis años, buscamos ayuda para apoyarlo y solo encontramos prejuicios, estereotipos y limitaciones. Dejamos de buscar y escuchar lo que otros pensaban que nuestro pequeño Piquita podría alcanzar. En su lugar, decidimos dar todo de nosotros para garantizar que el siempre tenga los recursos necesarios para ser un ser humano feliz y saludable capaz de alcanzar su potencial al máximo sin restricciones.

How do we make a difference?
Last year, we met Kennadi and the Lucky Ones through one of the many activities our community puts together to raise funds for causes that matter.
We fell in love with Kennadi and all the animals she takes care of immediately, and we decided to create a multi-sensory storytelling box that comes with a mini-book that compiles pictures and stories of the lucky ones, sensory dough, and mini animals to engage little ones in learning about the many ways we can care about animals and also make a difference in the world with small (or big) actions!

We invite you on a journey to unveil the meaning of stories as a community and as individuals while embracing and celebrating difference.
We are deeply honored to tell stories of little ones as Kailani, and we can’t wait to keep learning how each of you is a warrior in your ways!
We are looking forward to a year full of telling stories together!

Kailani is a very special girl struggling with mito, an illness that reduces her body ability to produce energy. Could you imagine not having enough energy to play and enjoy being a little kid? This month’s issue was inspired in Kailani’s story and wishing trees.
