Clicking low C key saxophone repair part 2.

Here we have removed a key guard showing that there were dents that had not been fixed beneath the key guard. This was making the Low C key collide with the guard and click. Doing the repair right means undoing the work of others, and redoing the repair from the beginning.

The feet on this low C guard need to be removed and resoldered. If work isn't done well the first time, it can benifit from being redone. Trying to make future repairs easier means finding the root cause of an issue and addressing it, rather than simply "fixing" the problem.

We are focusing on doing what we do well, and where we can give bette value than other music shops in Alberta. We will focus on woodwind repair, and custom or high performance brass repairs. If you are looking for a cheap band-aid solution others can do that, but we want to have great gear and great repairs, and improving every day.

Being overwhelmed with student instruments takes us away from our focus of becoming amazing at working on instruments for performing musicians.

How a pad seals is more important than if a pad seals.

Just because a pad seal doesn't mean it is good. How it seal against the tonehole affects it's longevity and the performance and response of the instrument. When a pad closes it is important to look to see where it touches the tone hole first. In a perfect world the full pad seat touches the full tonehole surface simultaniously. Then the instrument can have an incredible response, vibrancy and life to it.

Some things are only noticed when the instrument is apart.

This is the saxophone octave pip, if we didn't have a chance to take the instrument apart Josh may have never noticed it being loose.

Give us the opportunity to work on your instrument and you may be pleasantly surprised by the difference it can make.

Torque screwdriver! 1-15 cNm. Super important for good flute padding. This is the tool that tights each pad screw to the same amount every time with a consistancy and tightness.

Also check out the mesh bench pad. This was a suggestion from Mori Backun, it really is great. It is soft, and doesn't scratch the instrument, dust and debris is filtered through, it is easy to clean, and to replace. A great upgrade.

The shop is still a work in progress, always getting better.

A timelapse of just one step in the process of the COA of a flute. Doing the job well can takes care, time and respect. Here is Adjusting pad seal for a footjoint on a COA(stage 6 of 10).

1.Dissasemble
2.Check kicker materials(key feet felts)
3.Clean pads and check to make sure they are in good condition
4. Clean the key tubing
5.Add new oil to keys and rollers.
6. Reassemble and check pad seal
7.Adjust the regulation of C and C #
8.Adjust the pinky table keys heights so they are even and level.
9. Check the key opening heights
10. Check the Spring tension.

I really love this flute.
