The correct answer was Bluefaced Leicester (BFL)

BFL is one of the most popular fibres among hand spinners and for good reason!

Why spinners love BFL:
• Soft, but more durable than Merino
• Beautiful natural sheen
• Long staple length that makes it easy to spin
• Excellent stitch definition for knitting and crochet

This particular fibre is also Superwash, meaning it has been treated to resist felting and shrinking.

Yesterday, a few of our wonderful volunteers headed to Providence Lane Homestead for Farm Days to demonstrate spinning and share a little of what we love with the community.

It was wonderful to see all the visitors who came out to enjoy the farm, and we loved chatting with people about spinning, fibre and the crafts we enjoy.

But the day had an extra special moment… 💍 One of our volunteers was proposed to by her partner during the event! What a beautiful and unexpected surprise — and certainly something we’ll all remember.

Congratulations to the happy couple! ❤️

Thank you to Providence Lane Homestead for welcoming us for Farm Days, and to our volunteers for sharing their time, enthusiasm and love of fibre arts with the community.

From fleece to shawl — all in a day!

What an incredible team effort at the Priddis & Millarville Fair today! Our team took colourful fleece through processing, spinning, winding and weaving to create a beautiful shawl, and came away with 1st Place for Weaving Consistency! 🏆

Huge kudos to our amazing team for the skill and teamwork. And a big thank you to Sheep Creek Weavers for hosting this wonderful Fleece to Shawl event and celebrating the many hands and skills that turn a fleece into cloth.

Not every weaving project starts with perfect threads.

We often share the finished towels, scarves, and textiles that come off our looms that are look great. But today we’re sharing something different.

A warp was rolled on… and it wasn’t right. We didn't realize this though until a few inches were woven.

There was a moment of disappointment. A few groans. Some disbelief.

Then something wonderful happened.

No one pointed fingers. No one gave up.

Instead, members gathered around the loom, put their heads together, shared ideas, laughed through the frustration, and tackled the problem as a team. It took patience, problem-solving, and more than a little perseverance—but together we found a way forward.

Mistakes are part of every craft. They’re also where some of the best learning happens.

A few inches of this warp ws woven before we realized there was an issue with the rolled on warp. This piece of the cloth has become our “badge of honour.” We’ll each take home a small section as a reminder that the most valuable thing we create isn’t always what’s on the loom, sometimes it’s the friendships, knowledge, and resilience we weave together.

Because perfection isn’t always the goal ;-)

Is anyone willing to share a photo of a mistake?
