Every now and then, someone walks into the shop, smiles, and says...
"Your dad sold me my first vacuum."
I can't help but smile every time I hear it. When we first opened our doors, I was only 21 years old. Dad was the face everyone knew the "Vacuum Doctor." I worked beside him, learning not just about vacuums, but about people. He always believed that helping someone find the right vacuum was more important than simply making a sale, and that's something that's stayed with our family ever since.
Today, my brother and I run the shop, while Dad still pops in to lend a hand, pick up supplies, and, of course, make sure Charlie gets spoiled with his favorite treats.
But here's something I've realized over the years...
People might walk into our shop because they need a vacuum, a repair, or a part. But that's rarely all we talk about. We talk about new homes and home renovations.
New puppies that are suddenly covering every inch of the house in fur.
Kids moving out.
The vacation someone just got back from.
The best recipe for cabbage rolls.
The lipstick someone can't stop raving about.
A first date.
A breakup.
A new job.
A retirement.
We've celebrated exciting moments together.
We've shared a lot of laughs.
And yes... there have even been a few tears.
That's the part of owning a small family business that people don't always see. Somewhere between choosing the right vacuum bag and finding that impossible-to-find part, real relationships are built.
Over the years, so many customers have become familiar faces, and so many familiar faces have become friends. Looking back, I don't just think about the vacuums we've sold or repaired. I think about the conversations we've had, the people we've met, and the community that's grown around our little shop.
We truly love what we do. We love this shop. We love the people who walk through our doors. And we love being part of this community.
So here's to all the memories we've made over the years and to many, many more.
We'll be here, doing what we love: helping you find the right vacuum, the right part, the right repair, and maybe sharing a story or two while we're at it.
After all... that's always been our favorite part.
