From Calgary Opera, soprano Nicole Leung and tenor Tayte Mitchell will serenade you with light-hearted opera and musical theatre hits, hummable tunes, and delightful duets! You can hear them outside Meltro Burger, 601 17 Ave SW.
During her McPhee Young Artist residency with Calgary Opera, Canadian soprano Nicole Leung performed in some of Calgary's favourite operas, including Carmen, The Elixir of Love, and The Marriage of Figaro. Based in Calgary and Toronto, she recently sang at Koerner Hall as soprano soloist in Villa Lobos' haunting Bachianas Brasileiras and Ammolite Opera's Annual Gala at The Werklund Centre. Nicole also serves as a teaching artist for Calgary Opera's digital after-school program for children, Creative Explorers: Stories That Sing, in collaboration with the Calgary Public Library, and recently opened a voice studio with Tayte Mitchell; learn more at NTstudio-voice.com.
Tenor, stage director, and McPhee Program alumnus Tayte Mitchell serves as CEO of the award-winning contemporary opera company Ammolite Opera. He recently directed The Barber of Seville with Burnaby Lyric Opera, Vancouver Opera’s Brementown by Dean Burry and Handel’s Giulio Cesare with UBC Opera, and his production of Proving Up for Ammolite Opera was nominated for four Betty Mitchell Awards and won in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. Tayte was recently honoured as an Emerging Artist in the 2026 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards.
