When world-class baristas reach for a piece of gear, we're more than just curious.

The Better Vessel was created by Philippine Barista Champion Michael Harris, and Jill Hoff used it on her way to winning the 2026 Canadian National Barista Championship. The best part? Its simplicity: it improves your espresso in about 20 seconds while you basically just stand there (or, in Jill's case, deliver a gold-medal presentation to judges and spectators).

Big congratulations to Jill Hoff, Canada's 2026 National Barista Champion!

She took the title this past weekend, and we are still buzzing about it over here. Watching a Calgary barista claim such a victory hits us deep in the hometown feels, especially after seeing the skill, passion, and energy Jill brought to the stage.

Hats off to the whole Monogram Coffee crew. That kind of result does not happen without a team and a roaster behind it, and it is awesome to see a fellow Calgary shop on the national stage. Huge thank you also for hosting the event at School House Roasting!

The win punches her ticket to the World Barista Championship, where she will represent Canada against champions from more than 50 countries. A pretty special stage to land on, and we know she will do us proud.

We will be cheering her on the whole way. So proud to share a coffee city with you, Jill. Go show them what Calgary coffee is made of.

Recently, we welcomed H**e to our roaster lineup. We see that you've been loving their coffees, so we decided to build a summer drink starring Sidamo Bensa Bombe: a natural Ethiopian with notes of strawberry, peach, and raspberry and a syrupy milk-chocolate body.

If you don't have this coffee or you'd like to switch it up, you can replace the coffee in this recipe with H**e’s Panama Bambito Anaerobic, which is a very close alternative, or any coffee with a bright, fruit-forward flavour profile!

We're still coming down from an unforgettable anniversary weekend, so we put together a little something to relive it.

Two candles on the Eight Ounce Café birthday cake, the best Yard Sale turnout we've ever seen, and a whole weekend spent with DAK's head barista, Simone, who flew all the way from Amsterdam to celebrate. The Café was packed, the tastings were top-notch, and the tone was triumphant with so many of you in the room.

That's a wrap on our 2nd Anniversary, and wow, what a weekend!

Two years of the Coffee Club Café, and you all really showed up to celebrate. The Yard Sale might've had one of the best turnouts we've ever seen, the café was packed all weekend, and it was so good seeing so many familiar faces swing by.

The icing on the proverbial (Milky?) cake was all the support and enthusiasm from DAK Coffee Roasters, who have been with us since day one. It meant the world to us that their head barista, Simone Bianchi, hopped on a plane from Amsterdam to spend the weekend with us, and brewed some outstanding coffees for all our friends and fans.

To everyone who came out, whether you scored something at the Yard Sale, sat in on a session, or just popped by to hang and drink some good coffee... thank you. Seriously. None of this happens without you.

Here's to year three.

Our Café Anniversary is this Saturday!

We're throwing a party to celebrate, and you're invited. DAK Coffee Roasters has been with the Eight Ounce Café from the very beginning, so we're flying Simone Bianchi, DAK's Head Barista, in from Amsterdam to take over our filter bar... this Saturday only!

DAK holds a special place for us. We first fell for them back in 2022 at the Canadian AeroPress Championship, when Milky Cake was one of the official coffees, and they've been with us pretty much ever since. We've even made three coffees together over the years, the latest being Sunny Tea. So having them here for the anniversary means a lot, and honestly it's just as much about thanking all of you who keep coming back for their coffees.

We're five days out from the Coffee Club's 2nd anniversary, and we just had to do one more run-through before the big day.
