Early morning mission paid off.

Topwater in deep water? Absolutely. The smallmouth bass were crushing a White Gurgler in 25 feet of water. These fish were locked in and fighting like crazy.

Nothing beats watching a smallie explode on a Gurgler first thing in the morning.

Got the fly back!

After landing a dozen fish or so, my tippet snapped on this beautiful smallmouth.

Waited about 5 minutes, tied on a fresh tippet, and threw an identical #10 Olive Leech back in the same spot… and he slammed it again like nothing happened!

Got the fly back and a solid story to tell. These smallies never stop surprising me.

What a blast on the river today chasing smallmouth bass!

The fish were fired up and hitting everything I threw — big Stoneflies, Gurglers, Leeches, and Shiners all got crushed. Ended up with a ton of aggressive smallies, some absolute tanks, and nonstop action from start to finish.

Nothing beats a perfect day swinging flies with the sun on your back and the river giving up its best.
