Last week we stopped by The Barntique Canada to restock.
As we were putting these colourful little dishes on the shelf, Jen came over for a chat and immediately noticed them.

We told her how much we love the colours and how they give us total Cinco de Mayo vibes, perfect for fajita or taco night. 🌮🌶️

And Jen immediately said, “I would put candy in them.” 😂🍭

I mean… YES. I love it. Because honestly, that’s one of our favourite things about making functional pottery, you can always find a a use and sometimes multiple uses. We saw fajitas. Jen saw candy. And now I can’t stop thinking about chocolate in them. 😂🍫

Thanks for the idea, Jen! And as always, it was so nice seeing you. ❤️

Can we normalize talking about shrinkage?

Clay shrinks as it dries and again during firing. By the time it’s glazed and finished, it can lose around 12–15% of its original size.

The mug in this photo shows the journey through each stage in the kiln. Before. After. No diet involved. 😅

It’s one of those things every new potter has to learn, and one of the reasons measuring becomes so important.

The kiln always has the final say.
