Yesterday I went back to a place I’ve not been to in 23 years: my elementary school

I was invited to chat with grade two students about beekeeping!

We talked about the lifecycle of the honey bee, and how it differs between a queen, workers and drones; we discussed the importance of pollination, from all types of pollinators, for the food that we get to eat; we talked about how honey is made, and got to look at frames of honeycomb; we also chatted about products of the hives beyond honey, like beeswax and propolis

The students were so engaged and curious, and I’m sure the promise of a honey tasting at the end didn’t hurt
