🪻A little flower with a whole lot of strength.
A few years ago, my sister who lives in BC introduced me to the fireweed. I’ve loved it ever since — and after my recent visit with her, it felt like the perfect flower to turn into something handmade💜
Fireweed is a wildflower known for thriving in some pretty tough conditions. It’s often one of the first plants to grow back after a disturbance, pushing through and blooming when you might not expect much to grow.
It represents us: strength, resilience, and blooming after adversity🪻
I love meaning behind it?

So this little fireweed keychain is more than just a pretty accessory to me. It’s a tiny reminder that sometimes strength simply means continuing to grow.

We are! One daughter is heading off to university, the other is starting Grade 7 — and somehow I’m not emotionally prepared for either. 😂🥹
So naturally, I’m leaning into a fun, school related pattern… chemistry!🧪

🧬 This one feels a little more personal.
I’ve shared lots of science-themed scrunchies here before. I’ve always loved finding fun, unique science and medical patterns and turning them into something you can actually wear. But this is a new DNA pattern… and the timing of it feels a little surreal.
I’ve never really shared much personal stuff here, but I’ve been wanting to bring a little more of me into this page. So I thought I’d share why this particular pattern means a little more to me this week.
My mom has a form of dementia that has a genetic component. When I learned this, I also learned there was a 50% chance that I could have inherited the affected gene — and if I carried it, there was a possibility I could pass it along to my own daughters.
That’s a pretty heavy what if to carry.
On Thursday, I finally received the results of my genetic testing.
Negative. ❤️
I honestly don’t think I can put into words the weight that was lifted when I was given those results.
Relief for myself.
Relief for my husband.
Relief for my girls.
And gratitude that this is something I don’t have to wonder about anymore.
So now, when I look at this little DNA pattern, it feels a bit different.
It’s still a science-themed scrunchie — something I would have loved making regardless — but this week, it also feels like a little reminder of just how much our DNA can hold.
And maybe that’s the beauty of handmade things. Sometimes they become part of our stories without us ever intending them to. 🧬❤️
Anyway… that’s a little more of the person behind the scrunchies. ❤️
