Chatham-Kent Municipal Candidate Open House

Wednesday, September 9, 2026 | 7:00–9:00 p.m. (doors at 6:15 p.m.)

The Chatham-Kent Growth Alliance is hosting an evening for residents, farmers, builders, realtors and local business to hear directly from the people asking for your vote.

Format: a mayoral fireside session first, with confirmed candidates Darrin Canniff, Randy Hope, Michael Bondy and Lauren Anderson answering one question on each of CKGA's four priorities. Then everyone moves to ward tables to meet council candidates directly.

CKGA's four priorities for the next council:
1. Consult early and often with farmers, growers, builders, realtors and local industry before major decisions are made
2. Fiscal responsibility and transparency
3. Invest in infrastructure — roads, bridges, drainage and servicing
4. Fair and sustainable taxes

The general public is welcome to attend and observe — seating will be available.

Tonight I went to another Encampment Advisory Committee meeting at City Hall.

Rory Ring from the CK Chamber of Commerce provided the committee with an excellent explanation of all the hidden and unseen costs that businesses and their owners face when there is public disorder.

Thanks to the many speakers who advocated on behalf of Ward 7 residents and their interests as home owners.

I side with local residents and businesses. I will continue to advocate my position that we must get serious about crime and public disorder in CK.

If you're a Ward 7 resident and you plan on voting this October, please take a few minutes of your time to read through my 4 priority policies below.
I look to provide voters a clear representation on my policy views so they may confidently cast their ballot.

1) Business Growth and Commercial Development

I will advocate for expanding our corporate tax base and increase the overall percentage of collected commercial tax to alleviate the burden on homeowners. I think C-K offers fantastic advantages with regards to our affordable and available land, our advantageous access to the 401 corridor and close proximity to the American border. I want to see a rise in our productivity through increased manufacturing and empower this sector to make gains against our overweight service-oriented and public sectors. A more balanced composition of industry would be healthier for our municipality and tax policy.

I will advocate to allocate budget funds into enhancing commercially zoned sites into shovel ready sites. We must become a viable option for industry that is searching for a home and for growth. We must make our municipality easier and faster for business to get off the ground and expand. Let's get competitive and prioritize private investment over public.

To start, I would suggest cutting the cost to do business in C-K.
