Hey followers and friends! Let’s be super supportive of our local small businesses. Most of us are scraping the bottom of the barrel most weeks to make things work and pay the bills. Our friends at the Lavoy General Store are needing to fill spots in upcoming events. One is the bus shopping excursion coming up this week. Continental breakfast in Lavoy, hop on the bus and come here to the flea market, then back on the bus to stop in at the Clandonald Country Store and then off to the Farmstead Market in Kitscoty. I’ll also throw in the views around here right now are spectacular- harvesting happening, trees are varying shades of greens , yellows and reds, geese in the fields and rolling hills at every turn. Contact them to get in on this fun day.

Long before I was selling antiques in a barn, I was refinishing antique furniture. I remember the first item I sold and how little I knew about wood and paint and how to make something look better than it was. I don’t do much refinishing these days but when I do, I want to make sure it’s for the better.
My motto has always been “look past what you see to what it could be.” And I also willingly admit that I have painted furniture that should have been left alone, changed out vintage hardware that was better than the cheap knock offs I ended up using. It’s a journey of learning when you’re buying antique and vintage furniture. This piece sitting in the sunshine is a great example of potential and learning. First of all, this sideboard is roughly 160 years old. I know this from the joinery, materials used and type of wood. This particular wood is American Elm and common for the mid 1800s.
My dilemma today is the very hard, crusted on original shellac. This alligatoring happens when furniture is stored in an uninsulated, extreme temperature fluctuation environment. It’s so hard I cannot even scrape it. But the piece itself is in great shape overall. My initial plan is to sand down what I can, wash it thoroughly, seal it and sell it as it is. I love the variation of the dark old original stain on the exposed wood. Plan b will be white paint over top to create a natural crackle. I guess we will wait and see which option wins.

I’m super excited to have The Tipsy Tow coming to serve up some dance drinks for shoppers. Even if you’re not into all the other stuff, I hope you come out and support small businesses like this!

Hi, my name is Danielle Rindt. I am the Owner & Operator of The Tipsy Tow Mobile Bar, located in Rural Saskatchewan near our Border City.
The Tipsy Tow is a Dry Hire Mobile Bar, perfect for any occasion! Such as Weddings, Corporate Events, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Baby Showers and Bridal Showers, Farmers Markets, Bashes, and so MUCH MORE!

What does “Dry Hire” mean? It means we supply everything, including corkage (cups/napkins/straws), mixers, and ice; and you the Event Host, purchase your liquor and your liquor license. We then Bartend your event or if you already have your bartenders we will bring the trailer and supplies.

Why are we a “Dry Hire”? This makes events much cheaper for you, you purchase your own liquor at cost instead of having markups.

We also do a variety of nonalcoholic events, bringing fresh squeezed lemonades, dirty sodas, dirty energy’s, cold brew coffees, and mocktails!

I cannot wait to see everyone on the 26th. Swing by to grab a delicious nonalcoholic beverage!

Vendor #20 for the Flea to the Farm Market is a private collector. You may know Donna from her catering business. Likely you have attended an event or reception where she has been the caterer- also the chief cook, baker, pastry chef and hardest working woman I know.

Donna also shares the same maiden name as me because she is my dad’s cousin.

My name is Donna . I am a mother of 3, a grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 20..and I remember all their names, I know they all have birthdays, but I don’t know all the dates. 😜

I love glass. I love the colours and the beautiful displays that can be made. It looks great as a single piece or a display shelf full. My love for Fenton glass started with one piece my grandma had and the large unique pieces of Alta Glass etc. from the ‘70’s and 80’s . I had a large collection of this but had to let it go when we moved from our large farm house to a smaller house in town.I started collecting old dishes when I started catering…great to serve a head table and for my family Christmas table.
I will be bringing a variety of Fenton pieces and old dishes from plates to covered bowls plus a great granddaughter to help.
