Soper Creek Yarn

Soper Creek Yarn Where Beautiful Projects Begin! Located in Historic Village of Orono. A bright shop filled with everything you need to complete a knitting project.

Great gifts for your knitting friends too! The Shop opened at 80 King Street West, Bowmanville on December 1st, 2008 and in June 2013 we expanded into the shop next door, doubling the space. In 2019 we downsized the shop and moved everything to a 1920"s Bank Building, with vaults still inside, in the beautiful Village of Orono, Ontario.

I spent Monday tidying up from the Orono Fair. The pile of entries, there were a couple of ribbons, seemed to have a colour theme?

I guess the past year has been a teal/grey year.

It’s nice to look back at the projects I finished, it does prove I do get some completed!

That nice hat is Wander Hat by Caitlyn Hunter!

Winner Winner! The entries in the Cultural Arts category at Orono Fair 2026 were all winners! There were a lot of familiar names on those tags!

If you took time to make and enter something in this year’s fair, or any Local Agricultural fair you are amazing.

The community behind this event do such a wonderful job at keeping this tradition alive.

See you next year!

Finished Project Friday!

This was a great knit. The pattern was easy and interesting. The yarn is beautiful and soft. The colours were a bit close, but it will make a great cool weather accessory.

The pattern calls for a fi*****ng weight yarn and the Manos del Uruguay Sami and Marla are more of a DK weight. I adjusted the needle size. It’s one of the designs you can easily adjust. Use up half on the way up, and the other half on the way back! A food scale is your friend and I made sure to have 54 grams left of 100 to be sure to have enough, it was close.

Did you know that your gauge will change even slightly depending on your mood?

The finished project is about 190 cm, slightly longer than the original design.
Just one of each skein for the project.

I was getting a bit worried, even considered doing the last bit with just the one colour? (That’s called a design feature!)

The Muggles all think knitting is a bit boring!

Throwback Thursday?

We loved making shop samples! Socks were easy as it only required one for the display. I found the sample and the extra yarn and will finish the pair.
Like all good shop samples the colour sold out quickly.

The yarn is Koigu KPPPM and the pattern is from the book ‘Socks from the toe’ up by Wendy D Johnson.
If I don’t get them started tonight, can I still start them tomorrow as this project is not new?

A bit of fall? The weather is changing and it’s time to change back to wooly things. Even if they are pumpkins and acorns?

I made these over the past couple of years.
The pumpkins are a free design: Fall Festival Pumpkins. I made these using a super chunky acrylic.
The Acorns are also a free design: Fall Festival Acorn. I doubled the worsted weight yarn to create these larger version.
(Both designs are from Blue Sky Fibers)

The wee felted folk are a hard to find brand that we had in the shop years ago.

The Acorns are displayed in the glass vases to keep TheCat from ruining the display!

Enjoy the long weekend!

Don’t get your hopes up?

After working in the studio for most of the afternoon I went back in to check that I had locked the door. (Those who know me will understand.)
As I wandered over I was admiring how lovely this building looks. When the shop in Orono closed we took home the sign and I convinced TheFarmer to make a frame to put it in the garden.

The building is my studio, a bit of inventory and a place for photos and videos. Hopefully I will be able to use it to spin and weave without help from TheCat!

We still have a lot of yarn online, so wander over any time of the day and have a look!

A break in the weather. I stood in the rain to take these, the sky was so interesting tonight.
