🍁 WHAT TO COLLECT NOW — COLOURFUL FALL LEAVES 🍁

Fall is giving us another beautiful decorating material — and it's completely free!

Start watching for colourful leaves in brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, golds and burgundies. Collect them while they're still fresh and beautiful, before they become brown and brittle.

🍂 WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Choose leaves that are:
• Brightly coloured
• Fresh and flexible
• Free from large tears or holes
• Interesting shapes and sizes
• Fairly flat and clean

Bring a little basket or paper bag on your walks and collect a mixture. Maple, oak and other colourful fall leaves can all add wonderful texture and colour.

🍁 HOW TO PRESERVE THEM

1. PRESS THEM
Place leaves between sheets of plain paper and put them inside a heavy book. Add more weight on top and leave them until they're flat and dry.

2. WAXED PAPER METHOD
Place leaves between two sheets of waxed paper and, with adult supervision, gently press with a warm iron using protective paper or cloth between the iron and waxed paper.

3. GLYCERIN METHOD
For leaves you want to remain softer and more flexible, glycerin can be used to preserve them. This is especially nice when you're saving leaves for arrangements and crafts.

🍂 THEN GET CREATIVE!

Use your preserved leaves in fall arrangements, table centrepieces, garlands, framed nature art, cards, wreath-style decorations, kids' crafts and Thanksgiving décor.

🍂 TAKE THE KIDS ON A NATURE HUNT! 🍂

Sometimes the best craft supplies aren't found in a store — they're right outside your door!

Take the kids for a walk and let them collect fallen leaves, acorns, pine cones, little twigs, seed pods and other interesting treasures from nature.

Then bring everything home and see what you can create together! ❤️

🦊 Leaves can become funny fox faces.
🧚 Pine cones, acorns and seeds can become tiny fairies.
🦇 Little pine cones can even become adorable bats.
🍁 Add googly eyes, paper, cardboard, glue and a little imagination — and the possibilities are endless!

The fun isn't only in making the craft. Going outside and hunting for the materials is part of the adventure.

It gets children outdoors, encourages them to look closely at nature, and teaches them that something as simple as a fallen leaf or pine cone can become something wonderful.

🌿 Make an afternoon of it:
Go for a nature walk → collect your treasures → come home → spread everything on the table → CREATE!

Please collect responsibly, use fallen materials whenever possible, and supervise little ones with small pieces, scissors and glue.

🌿🍂 WHAT SHOULD YOU BE COLLECTING NOW? — MOSS! 🍂🌿

Another wonderful natural material to start gathering for your fall and Christmas arrangements is MOSS.

Moss adds that beautiful woodland look to arrangements and is wonderful for covering soil, floral foam and the tops of containers. It can also be tucked around pumpkins, pinecones, branches and greenery to give an arrangement a finished, natural appearance.

🔎 WHERE CAN YOU FIND MOSS?

Look in cool, damp and shady areas around your own property — especially:

🌲 Around the edges of wooded areas
🪵 On old fallen logs and stumps
🪨 On rocks and stone
🌳 Around the base of trees
🍃 In damp, shaded areas where the ground stays moist

Branches & Twigs Tip: Look for moss that is already loose or easily lifted rather than tearing up a large living patch.

Take only a little from each area and leave plenty behind so it can continue growing. And always make sure you have permission before collecting from property that isn't yours.

🍁 HOW WE USE IT

Moss is beautiful in fall arrangements and can be saved for your Christmas creations too. Keep it slightly damp while you're working with it, or allow it to dry for later decorative use.

🍂🌿 IT’S TIME TO START COLLECTING! 🌿🍂

Mountain ash berries are one of nature’s little treasures. ❤️

They’re beautiful in fall arrangements, they dry wonderfully for Christmas arrangements, and later in the winter they can provide food for the birds. 🐦

When you're out gathering, remember to leave plenty behind for our feathered friends.
