my little side projects the past couple months.. as a mother to a non verbal child i know sometimes it’s a pain to try to get communication open with pec cards you just buy off amazon and your child can’t relate to them as much. when we were helping prepare my son for big transitions and new places i knew i needed cards of pictures of the places we were going exactly, like some of his therapies, his daycare etc. i found that helped the most. i don’t have funding yet for a expensive ipad or app to help him so we use asl and cards to help him understand routines, whats happening, and overall help him communicate in a day. i created a binder to sort all his cards, making it easier to find certain cards instead of digging in a bag like i used to.. then when we went to new places or busier spaces i thought how can i carry about his cards for easy access when he may need to communicate something with me or we need to communicate something with him through a picture. and a custom lanyard came to mind.
anyways! my brain has been filled with ideas for easy communication for my sons needs and i thought i’d share them 🤍 happy to help create something that would help others as well!
