Do you know why they’re called fairy rings? 🧚

Deep in the boreal forest, these circles show up every season, perfect rings folklore has tied to fairies for centuries.

Old stories say fairies dance inside them at night, using the mushrooms as tiny stools and tables to rest on between dances.

I forage what grows here, the mushrooms, moss, and wildflowers, and preserve that little piece of magic in resin.

Every bird starts the same way, a real flower, foraged and set into resin, then given its own colour story.

Some are bold, some are soft, no two ever come out quite the same.

There’s a moment that happens when a wild thing decides you’re safe.

One of Swirley Shirley’s babies figured that out today, tucked between the rocks, working through a pile of sunflower seeds like nothing else in the world mattered.

I think that’s why I love this so much. Nature doesn’t perform for us or ask anything back. It just is, quietly, patiently, right there if we slow down enough to notice it.

Some days that’s the only therapy I need.

We share this land with a lot of wild neighbours, but there is something about a mama moose that stops you completely in your tracks.

She came through the tree line this morning calm as anything, and right behind her was the littlest set of legs trying to keep up. I barely breathed. 🫎

This is what I love most about living out here in the boreal forest. On an ordinary morning the forest just offers you something extraordinary and all you have to do is pay attention.

We feel pretty lucky to be on her route. 🌿
