Every winter, I make time to keep learning. This year, that included completing Invasive Terrestrial Plants Training through the Invasive Species Centre.

One lesson in particular — Escaping the Garden: Impacts of Common Ornamental Garden Invasives — stood out. It’s something we’ve been paying attention to for a long time, and the reason we adopted the 'Grow Me Instead' approach when it launched years ago.

I’m also aiming to fit in invasive forest pest training before the holidays wrap up. What we grow — and what we don’t grow — matters. Understanding how invasive plants and pests spread helps guide better choices, in the garden and beyond. ~ Jenn

MISSING orange cat – loud meow, last seen at Shannonville Rd & Harmony Rd

Our young orange cat, Buddy, hasn’t been around for 4–5 days and we’re really missing him. He’s a stray we took in. Just over a year old and was neutered within the last month, so he won’t look like an intact male if you spot him.

Here’s what makes him stand out:
🐾 Medium-sized orange tabby with a tiny bald spot on one shoulder (about pea-sized)
🐾 Has one black whisker — the rest are pale
🐾 Very loud, unusual meow — usually how we know he’s nearby
🐾 Outdoors, he’ll flop on the ground like he wants belly rubs but won’t let you catch him
🐾 Not much of a hunter, more of a pretty boy who loves fresh milk and lounging around

📍 Last seen at our barn on the corner of Shannonville Rd and Harmony Rd, Tyendinaga Township.

🙏 We’d be so grateful if neighbours could check sheds, garages, and barns in case he’s slipped inside somewhere.

Photos are attached for reference. If you’ve seen Buddy or noticed him hanging around your place, please send us a message. We’re staying hopeful he’ll find his way back home. 🐾💛

The weather didn’t play nice, and now the benches are full of colour that needs a good home. It happens.

We don’t believe in racing to the bottom—these aren’t loss-leaders or leftovers. They’re strong, healthy six packs of mixed-colour snapdragons and pansies, regularly $7.99, now just $3.50 each. Come grab a six pack. ~ Jenn

The weather’s finally warmed up, and if you’re just getting started on your garden or landscaping, you’re not alone—it’s definitely not too late to plant something beautiful.

If you’re looking for healthy, locally grown plants to get things going, we’ve got you covered. Everything we sell is grown right here in Tyendinaga Township—trees, shrubs, native plants, annuals, perennials, veggies, herbs, fruiting shrubs, vines, and hanging baskets. We focus on strong plants that do well in our local conditions, and we’re always happy to share advice.

🪺 When you visit, please avoid the orange bucket at the top of the driveway. A kildeer is nesting there, and her space is protected by law.

Well folks, this is not the post I thought I’d be writing this week. Normally by now, we’d be celebrating another season at the garden centre—picking out the prettiest petunias, talking tomatoes, and swapping planting tips over the wagons. But life threw a bit of a curveball.

I’d been feeling poorly for a few weeks—brushing it off like farmers do, telling myself it was just the season catching up to me. But on Mother’s Day, my body called a timeout. I ended up in the hospital with what they think was a heart attack (though I’m still not convinced that’s the right term—it feels a little too dramatic for how mostly fine I feel now). I’m being transported to Kingston tomorrow for a closer look, and if all goes well, I’ll be home by Friday.

In the meantime, my brother Joel—who knows the greenhouses like the back of his hand—is leading the charge and moving plants out today. Eddie’s backing him up whenever and wherever he can. I trust them both implicitly.

We WILL be open this weekend. We’re one body down and kindly asking for your support and patience while we get back to status quo. The plants are looking great—they’re ready for you. We just ask that you be gentle with us while we get caught up.

Thanks for sticking with us. ~Jenn
