ππ¦ Bread for wild birdsβ¦ helpful or harmful? Letβs talk about it π€
Weβve all done it β tossing bread to ducks, geese, or backyard birds feels kind and harmless. They eat it instantlyβ¦ so it must be good, right?
Wellβ¦ not exactly π¬
Bread isnβt poisonous to birds, but itβs basically βjunk foodβ for them. It fills them up without giving the nutrients they actually need like protein, healthy fats, and minerals. So birds can end up fullβ¦ but underfed. Not great, especially for growing chicks π£
In waterfowl like ducks and geese, a diet too heavy in bread has even been linked to a condition called βangel wingβ, where the wings grow abnormally and the bird may never be able to fly properly πͺ½
So what should we feed instead?
πΎ Birdseed mixes
π½ Oats
π₯ Unsalted nuts
π Small bits of fruit (for the right species)
Occasional crumbs wonβt cause harm β but regular feeding choices really do matter β€οΈ
Did you know this before? What do you usually feed birds when you see them? π¦π
