Spence Shaw reflects on his Mourning Mask and the inspiration for the piece:
"It's a self-portrait, Mourning Mask. It represents all the people i've lost in my family over the past, short while. It was quite important for me to create."
On his journey creating the piece, "it was like a mourning experience. Lots of happy moments, lots of sad moments."

This Shaman Pendant is expertly hand-carved in yew wood by Haida Master Carver Ron Russ. Sourced in limited quantities from Haida Gwaii, yew is a prized hardwood, traditionally used for finely detailed jewelry and small carvings. The piece is accented with luminous abalone inlays - set within the eyes of both the shaman and the bear below, and framing the frontlet - while an 18-karat gold hook lends a refined finish.

The Bear symbolizes strength, family, vitality, courage, and health. Quietly introspective and independent, it embodies a self-contained, steadfast spirit - offering comfort and reassurance, particularly in life’s more solitary moments.
