Winnie, Jane and Sherlock

PoohCorner Hartfield
We went to the 100 Acre Wood! After our visit to Pooh Corner to see the Winnie museum we took a stroll through our favourite fictional forest which actually exists in the real Ashdown Forest. The short 30 minutes walk took us by the homes of Piglet, Eeyore, Owl and Pooh. We even raced sticks under Poohsticks Bridge!

Jane Austen's House
The Jane Austen Museum is set up inside her childhood home. We could walk into Jane’s room, read some of her handwritten correspondence and view her actual writing table in this picturesque cottage. Roaming the halls was a step back in time we won’t soon forget.

The game is afoot! Visiting the Sherlock Museum makes you forget he’s a fictional character! 221B is packed with Sherlock lore like the iconic cap (that he never wore), the bullet hole initials of Queen Victoria (whom he deeply respected), the Persian slipper (where he hid his to***co) and the mount of a Baskervilles Hound (creepy!). It was fun to explore the apartment style museum and see how Sherlock, Watson and Mrs. Hudson lived. Or would have lived… if they weren’t fictional.

Booksellers in the Wild: Chapter Two (of four)
Hay-on-Wye, Wales

When booksellers go on vacation they inevitably get up to bookish things! Over the next couple weeks we'd like to share with you Christy and Abby's England adventures.

Every shop in the book kingdom of Hay-on-Wye was unique and fun to visit. Here’s a few highlights that you’ll see if you watch the video.

Hay Cinema Bookshop is an absolute maze! They literally put signs up to guide you back to the front door. As if we ever wanted to leave!

Christy scored a book gem in Hay! There’s a title, Forever Amber, that she casually looks for in every shop she browses. It’s kind of become her book obsession over the years. In 2024 she found a Corgi edition in Scotland, they only had Volume One (of two) in stock but she was happy to find it. Now in 2026 she found a Corgi edition Volume Two in Wales. These two volumes were published in different years so it’s not the actual set that was separated but she will forever think of it as meant-to-be.

Addyman Books is housed in an old Transylvanian church! It’s has blue ornate shelves and stacks upon stacks (upon stacks) of books!

Another huge shop, Richard Booth Books,
was named after the founder of this wonderful book town. Bless his heart.

Pages Twinsies!

Many years ago one of our customers told us that in England there is a village called Cranbrook. And in that village called Cranbrook there is a shop named Pages.
It’s true!
Pages UK has a small but mighty magazine stand, there must be hundreds of titles snugged into the 12ish foot space. The rest of the shop is chock-full of drinks and snacks. Unfortunately the owner wasn’t in the day we passed through but it was fun to visit and we’re so glad we added the destination to our road trip.
