Planning ahead for Back Issues Comicon on Saturday, April 17, 2027…we’re going to have more parking, more space, more tables, more room to rest and more access to refreshments!

Now, a quick favour to ask:
Does anyone have video from any of the past events that we can use clips of to construct a 30-60 second video compilation to share?

Announcement time!

Going to get right to it:
Unfortunately, as you may have suspected – there will not be a Back Issues Comicon this fall.

The show takes a great deal of planning and energy. Despite how easy we make it look, it is many months of planning and coordination by a small team. A lot of life has happened since the April show and many other responsibilities have taken precedence. It’s a labour of love though so the show will go on!

In fact, the show will go on in a bigger, brighter location with modern amenities, over 160 parking spaces, nearby transit nad much more.

On Saturday April 17, 2027 we are moving to a great new location at the Cedar Event Centre at 111 Clayton Park Dr. on the corner of Clayton Park Drive and one of Halifax’s busiest roads, Dunbrack Street!

This change in location presents some opportunities the previous venue couldn’t:

- We can now have outdoor food vendors (reach out to discuss, if you have a licensed food truck, trailer or wagon).
- There will be a rest area with tables, chairs and access to prepackaged snacks and refreshments at a snack bar inside the building (also an opportunity open to vendor set-up rather than convention operation - reach out with your pitch).
- Bigger, newer, cleaner bathroom amenities.
- We will have more space for vendors. All five previous events have had people we could not get in and so we maintained a running waiting list of interested vendors. There were also existing vendors who wanted more table space but we were unable to get more space. That is now a thing of the past. This 12,000+ foot facility allows us to grow and adapt based on interest and needs.
- As mentioned...parking. 160+ parking spots.
- Transit stops on Dunbrack and Lacewood. A nearby transit terminal and easy drop-off and pick up areas,

This will remain a one-day, comic driven, fan event. That is not changing with the venue, but we can now allow more comic collectibles and comic book related merchandise in addition to more comic vendors and more space for those vendors. We will also be able to introduce more comic art and more comic guests.

We’re excited by this new direction and the opportunity to expand the floor for more boxes to go bin-diving in. We hope you’re as excited as we are! Check out BackissuesComicon.com for images of the new location.

Further details and updates will follow in the next few months. We hope you will plan to attend Back Issues Comicon, just 8 short months from now on Saturday April 17, 2027!

MONEY MONEY MONEY.

And no, that isn't just one of the best hits from Mamma Mia! It's the subject of today's post!

We are looking for three, count 'em, THREE artists who can create unforgettable badge art for our Warpspeed, Impulse, and Weekend Badges for Hal-Con 2026!

FAQ

1. Is it paid? : You bet your sweet bippy it is!
2. Do I have to make the art myself : 1000% Yes, no AI or stolen art here, all homegrown hard work blood, sweat, and tears only!
3. Where do I apply? : Scroll ALL the way down to the bottom of our Participate page on our website (or just go to the link in our bio)
4. What do I need?: As this is a request for quote, we would like you to apply with your portfolio so we can get a feel for your art style.

So please, if you are a human (or human adjacent carbon based being who makes their own art by their own hand/hand type appendage) apply! We can't wait to see what sort of Nelson monstrosities you can make this year!

Thank you to all our vendors and attendees who came out to the 5th Back Issues Comicon on Saturday. It was an amazing day and easily our best event yet!
Thanks especially to our guests this time, Brenda Hickey, Troy Little, Sandy Carruthers and Andrew Clark (Andrew is also kind enough to help with some graphics help that is invaluable). We are so appreciative of the time you set aside to spend the day with all of us.
Thanks also need to be extended to Kent Harris for his help between events and especially the few weeks prior as he helps get the word out, when he takes on more than his fair share of set-up and tear down of the venue and his contributions the day of, even helping vendors get in and out of the venue with their wares. This show would not happen without him, his drive and his supportive nature.
We’ve had a fair number of people help over the last couple of years, but for Back Issues #5 I’d specifically like to thank Jamie, Ella and Zach for everything they did at this event. Jamie helps behind the scenes leading up to the show, works the entry collecting entrance fees with Ella and makes sure we’re fed and caffeinated. Ella is the cheerful face you see on your way in the door either fitting you with a bracelet or making your change. Zach is the cheerful guy watching the door and roaming the upper floor looking for anyone who needs a hand and helping some vendors get their merchandise in and out of the venue.
Back Issues is like a child in that it takes a village. No one individual could make this show work and we are all one team. Thank you to everyone who makes this little show so much fun!
