Community Spotlight: QEII Ride for Cancer
Each year, Nova Scotians come together to support local cancer care through the QEII (BMO) Ride for Cancer, Atlantic Canada’s largest cycling fundraising event in support of the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
This year’s ride is especially significant, as 2026 has been announced as the event’s Grand Finale, marking more than a decade of community fundraising that has transformed cancer care right here at home.
Local resident Hugh Bray is once again taking part, riding in honour of Colleen, a Halifax business owner and cancer survivor whose journey highlights the importance of world class care and ongoing research. Colleen faced lung cancer twice and credits the expertise, innovation, and compassion of the QEII care teams with helping her beat the disease. Her story is one of resilience, community, and hope—and a reminder of why investments in local healthcare matter.
Funds raised through the Ride for Cancer stay in Atlantic Canada and support critical initiatives at the QEII, including advanced diagnostic technology, personalized treatment tools, surgical innovation, and patient supports that improve outcomes and quality of life for those facing cancer.
