July Reading Wrap! I’m officially out of my reading slump and attacking my TBR list with abandon! 💪🏼Here’s what I read this month...
🌊 milktooth by local author Jaime Burnet absolutely stays with you.
It’s a beautifully told story that had me flying through the chapters to see how everything unfolded. I can completely understand why it’s an award-winning novel, and the Cape Breton and Scotland settings added a lot to the story. 🏴❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
🔎 Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth is an incredible read—part mystery, part literary fiction.
I absolutely devoured this book, and it completely pulled me out of my June reading slump. 📖💛 If you enjoyed The Correspondent, I’d definitely recommend this dual-timeline story, with the sharp-witted Mabel as our unforgettable narrator. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🏖️ The Shampoo Effect by Jenny Jackson is the perfect beach read.
Centred around a long-time group of friends with a deep history together, things get messy when one of them starts dating someone new. 👀 Set in coastal Massachusetts with a bit of a “The Four Seasons” show vibe, it’s rich in character development, and it impossible for me to pick a side. 🌊☀️📖
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and definitely beach bag worthy! 🏖️
📚 Delving into non-fiction this month with Girl on Girl by Sophie Gilbert. 💭
I went into this book expecting something different, and I was left feeling hopeless and powerless after finishing it, similar to how I felt after reading Invisible Women by Caroline Criado-Perez. I also found the byline a bit misleading. The information in both books is incredibly important, but I was hoping for more of a path forward now that we know what we know. Maybe that’s the reader’s role to imagine. 🤷♀️
I’d still recommend reading this one, but be prepared to cringe through every chapter. 😬 ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
