Perennial Bearded Irises

With their upright, fan-shaped leaves of pointed, grey-green hues, bearded irises create a striking structural contrast against other garden plants. Their stunning blooms, available in virtually every colour of the rainbow, bring not only beauty but often delightful fragrance from mid-spring to early summer.

Bearded irises are among the easiest perennials to cultivate, making them ideal for gardeners of all experience levels, from beginners to experts. They thrive in full sun, requiring at least six hours of direct light each day. Thanks to their thick underground rhizomes, they are drought-tolerant and can adapt to soils ranging from poor to average fertility, although they perform best in average to rich soils with adequate moisture.

Highly Fragrant

The Hansa Rose (Rosa rugosa ‘Hansa’) is a robust, hardy rugosa shrub rose. It is celebrated for its strongly fragrant, double flowers in a deep, velvety reddish-purple. The blooms provide a stunning contrast against its dense, crinkled green foliage, which also exhibits excellent disease resistance.

Hansa Roses bloom recurrently from early summer into fall, with excellent repeat flowering. Exceptionally cold-hardy and salt-tolerant, it is a nearly care-free landscape rose. After the blooms fade, it produces large, ornamental orange-red hips. It is an outstanding, low-maintenance choice for creating a dense, fragrant hedge, windbreak, or a resilient, eye-catching specimen.
