A moo-ving reunion over 50 years later! 🐮🐮

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming retired taxidermist Robert Isaac to the Homestead Museum in Drumheller. He was responsible for preserving one of the rarest and most beloved items in our museum: the Two-Headed Calf.

It all started back in December 1970 near Beiseker, AB. Robert was having dinner on a cold winter night when a friend called to announce that a two-headed calf had been born on his farm and Robert had to come check it out! Sadly, the little newborn calf did not live very long - only a couple of hours. But what a rare and amazing phenomenon to see in person!

Since Robert was a practicing amateur taxidermist at the time, he offered to stuff and preserve the calf. He said it was one of the most important decisions of his life and recounted how soft the calf's fur felt against his cold hand. He completed the taxidermy in one night, leaving the original dual skulls in place.

Over five decades later, Robert's handiwork is still proudly displayed here at the Homestead Museum. Visitors from around the world come here to admire this fascinating creature.

Thank you, Robert, for sharing your experience with us, and for preserving this Two-Headed Calf which has brought wonder and amazement to so many thousands of people over the years. 🥰

Update: our Bison statue is looking much better now with a fresh coat of paint 😎

The Homestead Museum has been part of the Drumheller community for over 60 years, and we want to take good care of it so it continues beyond the next 60 as well 🤩

If you would like to help us cover the cost of this and other rejuvenation efforts, please consider donating to the Homestead Museum today (as we are a registered charity, tax receipts are available on request). You can also support us by buying a $5 raffle ticket and/or bringing a friend to tour the museum this summer. We appreciate everyone for their support! 🥰
