This is a 1946 calendar designed to promote Hanley's Hardware in Drumheller, AB.

The calendar features a portrait of "Her Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth," but it's not the Queen Elizabeth that most of us remember. She is the mother of Queen Elizabeth II (who was a princess at the time, later becoming queen in 1952), queen consort of then reigning King George VI, and the grandmother of King Charles III.

Take a closer look and you may notice something unusual (to us) about the phone number!

Have you every played Crokinole? It's harder than it looks!

This board game was invented in Ontario in the 1870s and became popular here in the Prairies. You score points by flicking the circular piece toward the centre of the circle. You can also strategize by knocking the other player's pieces off the board.

Our antique Crokinole board from the 1930s is not to touch! But we also happen to have a brand-new Crokinole board on site that you are welcome to try. Maybe you can bring a friend to the Homestead Museum and challenge them to a Crokinole match πŸ˜„

Have you ever tried a Stereoscope? It's like the 1800s version of a Virtual Reality headset.

You place a double-image in the holder and bring the device to your eyes, then you slide the image back and forth until your eyes bring the two slightly-offset images together as one three-dimensional image which gives the illusion of depth.

Check out our collection of stereoscopic images and try it for yourself here at the Homestead Antique Museum!

This one's for all the car lovers: this is a 1914 Model T Ford Touring Car.

Though this one was later customized yellow, it was originally black like all Model Ts at that time. As Henry Ford reportedly said, he could make a car "any colour the customer wants, so long as it's black." He wanted everything to be uniform to maximize efficiency on the production line; such practices reduced production costs and made car purchases affordable for a greater number of households in North America. This transformation is known as the "democratization of the automobile" in the 1910s-20s.

We have many amazing antique cars and tractors on display here at the Homestead Museum. Be sure to add us to your summer Drumheller itinerary!
