Hi Friends!
Myself and my husband Henry will be at the Friends of Cedar Bay Craft Show this Saturday, December 2 from 11-3 at the Sioux Lookout Arena. The doors will be open at 10 for seniors and vulnerable shoppers.
I’ve got lots of lovely things that I’m bringing, from fresh green wreaths and arrangements, to furniture, crafts, plants and some fabulous refinished finds. This year we are also bringing wild flower honey produced on our farm!
I hope to see you there!

After a year of not doing any furniture projects for clients and not posting any of my personal ones, I've got a newly finished piece to share!
I'm so grateful for repeat customers. This is piece number 4 for this client! Her request was that it be a combination of warm wood tones with some dark grey or navy paint and that it be completed as soon as possible.
I bought this dresser several years ago at a garage sale. It has since been sitting in my shed, collecting dust. Honestly, I didn't think much of this dresser. It had the most interesting old bronze metallic paint on it, which thankfully came off relatively easily with some paint stripper. Underneath I found the most beautiful walnut veneer on top, with some really bad, faux walnut veneer over solid maple on the body. After hours of work over the course of a week (in this heat 🄵), I'm pleased to share the end result!

Another commission done that was a long time coming. Big applause to my husband who played a huge role in this sweet little desk refinish. If you scroll though the photos, you can see the before shot… they don’t look all that bad do they? Well, it was bad. Most of the joints needed to be taken apart and reglued and there was a huge crack along the veneer lid that needed to be fixed. We joke that there are some areas that are more wood putty/filler/glue than wood! My husband tells me it would’ve been easier to build a new desk, but where’s the fun in that? And it wouldn’t have the same charm as this little antique beauty.

I’m sure my friend S will be very happy to finally have her writing desk back. She doesn’t know anything of the history but she found it at a garage sale several years ago. What a great find, I totally would’ve scooped this up if I saw it at a sale too!

I bought this beauty several years ago (yes, years 😣) from an estate sale. She definitely didn’t look like this when I bought her. She was completely covered in white chippy paint and had a missing drawer front and damaged veneer on top. I looked so far back in my photos but unfortunately couldn’t find the ā€œbeforeā€ shots (but I’ll keep looking).

The granddaughter of the former owner of this piece happens to be someone I know and she was helping at the estate sale. I sent her a photo of a dresser that I had bought and refinished from that same sale. She then asked me if I still had this vanity and if I could let her know when it was done. I’m so embarrassed that it took me years! She probably gave up on me. But in the end, she ended up purchasing it and it went home last weekend. I love when a piece ends up back where it should be šŸ’•

W is refreshing her living area and had bought a couple pieces of furniture from me for her new space last summer. She later messaged me and asked if I could redo this small step ladder in a similar colour scheme so that she could use it as a side table in that room as well.
This step ladder is sentimental as it was possibly made by her husband’s grandpa and is probably around 70 years old… regardless of its exact origins, it’s been in his family for many years. I love the idea of hanging on to special family pieces and using them in new and unexpected ways!

This is a special project as it will be used as a change table for my niece who will be arriving in March! My sister-in-law came over in the fall and picked this dresser out from my collection (haha, yes I have a furniture collection, no judging please!) as it was the perfect height and size to hold baby’s things. My brother (who is a talented carpenter), will be making a tray to sit on top, which will hold the change pad so baby has no chance of rolling off. I love using a dresser as a change table (we used one for each of our kids) as it has tons of storage, it can still be used as they get older and if you get an antique one, it’s very sturdy as well.

Time to play catch-up! We’ve been renovating our house for the past year so I haven’t been refinishing furniture as much as I would’ve liked. But I seem to get into a ā€œgrooveā€ where I get a bunch of projects done at once, so I will hopefully be sharing a few shortly.

I’ve had this handsome boy for awhile and I seriously considered keeping it, because 🤩!He’s on my top 5 favourites list for sure! But as my husband keeps telling me, I can’t keep them all…
All of the walnut veneer was carefully sanded down and refinished and glued down in areas where it was lifting. The trim detail needed to be removed during this process and I decided it needed a little something to make it stand out, so I painted the charcoal accents.
I wish I could find ā€œbeforeā€ photos, buuut, it was awhile ago that I started working on it and I can’t seem to. Picture an ok piece, but very monochrome. Now he’s just fabulous!
He found a new home just before Christmas.

I found this dresser at a thrift store in Exeter while visiting family in S. ON two years ago. The moment I saw it, I knew I had to have it even though it was a pain to lug back to NWO and the walnut veneer was in rough shape. Fixing it worked out beautifully ... please take a look!

I'm trying to play a little catch up with my posts. There are sooo many pieces that I've refinished but haven't shared, either because I don't have photos that are up to my standards, or sometimes I just haven't taken the time to post them. So it bothers me a bit to be sharing these dresser photos as they are, but I completed it the hectic, crazy night before a craft show and photographed it in artificial light in an embarrassingly messy house, then it sold the next day, so unfortunately never had the opportunity to take more photos of this beauty. It's still in my top ten favourites list, even two years later :)

This is a quirky plant stand I’ve been meaning to get to for awhile. Sometimes it’s nice to whip off a quick project so you get the good feels without doing a ton of work. Who would’ve known it was solid quarter-sawn (or tiger stripe) oak underneath that horrid orange that it was before.

I’ve been pretty terrible at posting recently. I’ve noticed some people checking out my page (not specifically who you are, but FB notifies me when someone’s taken a look) and I want to say - thank you, and yes, I’m still here! šŸ‘‹

There have been a few things keeping me from working on furniture as often as I’d like and also from posting. First of all, we moved across town last fall and we’ve been pretty preoccupied with the actual moving part, then renos at our new place. And more recently, my real camera died. Anyone who knows me personally probably has figured out that I’m a bit of a perfectionist - so lack of a nice backdrop and no camera has kept me from sharing.

I’ve still been working on projects here and there. It’s a good way for me to keep my sanity, especially during lockdown 😜 This is a desk that I refinished for my daughters. They constantly have paper and markers strewn all over the floor, so I’m hoping šŸ¤ž that having a designated colouring spot will stop that (Ha!). I completed it several weeks ago but was waiting on the hardware to arrive. So here it is, all finished!
