THIS SATURDAY....Rock de Tour is back! Get ready to dance the night away to local legends Maxwell Smart at Red Arrow Brewing! Your Cowichan Valley rider for Cops for Cancer - Tour de Rock is Registered Nurse Mary Skorupka with Island Health. Mary has been a dedicated nurse at the Cowichan District Hospital for 40 years! She's riding to raise money for childhood cancer research and Camp Goodtimes before her 1,200km ride which starts in a couple weeks!.

In the last 3 years over $68k has been raised from this benefit concert and we can't wait to add more for our local rider 🥰

I had the honour of working with Mike Hennessy to help create the first bicycle tire and tube recycling program of its kind in Canada, when I refused to continue to put these in our landfills.
Mike was involved in MS Grape Escape bike ride and sat on the MS Board and was working for the Tire Stewardship BC.
We sat down for dinner at Just Jakes and started the plan. This program would have never gone anywhere without the love and respect the board had for Mike.
We lost Mike to Cancer a few years later and I put his initials on my journey necklace on my ride for Tour de Rock!
I saw his son at the Victoria Police Station on our stop last year.
Life is a gift!

Liz Steward from Craig Street Brew Pub & Just Jakes stopped by to give us an update on her fundraising efforts for this year's Cops for Cancer - Tour de Rock! Liz is a cancer survivor herself and she’s shaving her head at the upcoming Rock de Tour concert at Red Arrow Brewing on Saturday, September 12th. She has a goal to raise $25,000 and donate the funds to Mary Skorupka's, this year's Cowichan Valley Rider who is biking 1,200km across Vancouver Island raising funds to help with pediatric cancer research, and Camp Goodtimes.
