⭐️Volunteer Highlight: Betty
Today, we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on Betty, a valued volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store in Duncan. Betty has been part of the HATS team for the past three or four years and currently serves as our Public Relations Director.
Betty moved to the Cowichan Valley from Trail in 2017, bringing with her many years of experience in community involvement, the arts, and volunteering. During her 14 years managing the Trail Arts Council, Betty wore many hats. She helped manage the theatre box office, was involved in starting a film series, and helped with Music in the Park, including its many performances.
Community involvement has always been an important part of Betty’s life. She was introduced to HATS after moving to the Cowichan Valley through her involvement with the Reel Alternatives fundraiser for hospice. Another HATS volunteer encouraged her to join the Auxiliary, and thankfully, she did!
Betty’s creativity has also found an outlet through volunteering. In the past, she has made costumes for amateur theatre, adding another wonderful chapter to her long history of supporting the arts and her community.
Away from volunteering, Betty is a proud mother of three children and grandmother to four grandchildren.
