AC1649 Our Horse: Animal Sculpture Workshop - w/Herman Poulin - May 29 & 30

No Experience Necessary!
Participants will learn the basic and simplified form of a figure on a horse with an emphasis on weight, motion, composition and contour. We will also consider sculptural balance in relation to the base and learn how to make pieces with sculptural strength.

The participants will be introduced to foil/clay paint medium - finishes and coloured patina effects. Herman will discuss presentation, authenticity and demo metal electroplating.This course is offered in 2 sessions of 3 hours (6 to 9 pm evening and 9 to noon next day).

All materials are supplied and are non-toxic – Maximum class is 12 participants

Close to four decades of public art, Herman has touched people, communities and schools by promoting his talent.

Born in 1950, and second child in a family of eleven, he was born in Quebec and in 1953, his family moved to St. Edouard (County of St. Paul). In 1977, he established his family business (HuB Designs) by making concrete and cedar signs, golf furniture, bronze monuments, sculptures and awards. His first art lessons were under the tutelage of renowned local artist Margo Lagasse. He claims “She will always remain one of my greatest inspiration.” He later went to College of Art in Calgary, multiple art workshops and programs and attended Arizona School of Fine Art. He also belongs to such prestigious association as the VAC (St. Paul Visual Art).

CAVA ,(Centre d’arts visuels de l’Alberta) and most recently SAA (Sculptors Association of Alberta). He says ,“belonging to an association provides multiple opportunities to advance and to gain a wealth of knowledge from fellow artists and sculptors. Even if his preference is sculpture, he enjoys all mediums such as painting, drawing, oil pastels, paper and clay.

He wishes to thank publicly his family, his fellow artists, his community, countless skilled tradesmen, his patrons and co-workers and all his teachers throughout his career.

What makes a painting attractive? It is not how accurate we have captured the scenery but the feeling you had the moment you enter into the environment that you captured. We will continue focusing on using shapes to unify the picture and learn how to reduce complex scene to simple shapes.

Morning will be devoted on skills building: flat wash/glazing, wet on wet and painting trees.
In the afternoon; working on a morning picture.

Ada Wong, watercolour artist, was trained with old master oil painting techniques while she was growing up. She knew almost instantly that her art journey had begun a new chapter when she encountered the fluidity of the watercolour medium. Since then she has taken a journey filled with adventures....
