Breathe easier while your wood floors and surfaces look their best.

Osmo 2K Wood Oil is GREENGUARD GOLD certified, meaning it's independently tested for low chemical emissions. That's good news if you've got little ones, allergies, or you just want less "fresh finish" smell hanging around the house.

Low-emission and built to last. That's the Osmo standard. 🌿

What's that white or amber stuff escaping from your timbers? That's pitch.
If you look closely at a freshly coated timber frame, especially around knots, you might notice small amounts of white or amber residue working its way to the surface. That's pitch, the natural resin found in softwoods like Douglas fir and pine, and it's not a sign of finish failure. It's actually proof the finish is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

Osmo's oil-based system is microporous rather than film-forming so it never seals the wood under an airtight layer. That means moisture, and yes, pitch, can still find their way out through the coating instead of getting trapped underneath it. Compare that to a varnish or polyurethane finish, where that same resin pressure has nowhere to go and often ends up causing bubbling, cracking, or peeling down the line. With Osmo, the wood keeps behaving like wood. It breathes, it moves, it releases what it needs to release, and the coating simply lets that happen without losing its own integrity. For heavy timber applications where large structural members are often installed at higher moisture content, that flexibility isn't a nice-to-have. It's the difference between a finish that lasts and one that fails from the inside out.

Canadian sauna builder Mark Lacroix’s finish of choice? Osmo UV-Protection Oil 410 Clear. Copperwood Sauna Co. in Spruce Grove, Alberta, finishes every sauna build with it, citing how easy it is to work with in the shop and the long-lasting result it gives clients.

Osmo UV-Protection Oil 410 is built specifically for exterior wood, which makes it a natural fit for outdoor sauna exteriors, changing rooms, and cedar cladding. It's a satin, natural oil-based finish that penetrates cedar rather than forming a surface film, so it won't crack, peel, blister, or flake the way many film-forming coatings eventually do. The microporous finish lets the wood breathe while still repelling water and reducing swelling and shrinkage, which is perfect for the extreme high and low temperatures saunas endure.

Maintenance is straightforward too: when it's time to refresh the finish, it's a clean-and-recoat process rather than a full strip-and-sand. For sauna owners, that means less time maintaining the structure and more time using it.

Whether it's a barrel sauna by the lake or a cabin-style sauna tucked into a backyard retreat, an outdoor sauna faces year-round exposure. Without protection, cedar exteriors weather to grey, and Western Red Cedar, Eastern White Cedar, and other softwoods commonly used for sauna builds can start to crack, cup, or absorb moisture unevenly. That's where sauna wood protection comes in, not to change the character of the wood, but to help it hold its natural colour and structure for years.

Copperwood Sauna’s square barrel sauna (seen here in photos from ) is crafted from tight-knot Western Red Cedar, with Western Red Clear Cedar used for the floor and bench tops to ensure easy maintenance and lasting durability.

Designed for both dry and wet traditional sauna use, the sauna heats in approximately 45–60 minutes and can reach temperatures up to 90°C (194°F). Considering temperatures in Alberta can occasionally plunge to -30°C to -40°C, (especially in northern and central Alberta), Copperwood Sauna needed a wood finished designed to withstand extreme temperatures with easy maintenance cycles. The team uses Osmo UV-Protection Oil 410 Clear to coat the exterior of their saunas.
