Why I do consignment:
You get the most money for your items.
So far this year, in only 5 months, I have helped local families gain an extra $1,256.65 in cash. With the price of things these days, it may not seem like much, but for most, this helped put food on the table.
Let’s face it… consignment is a time consuming, tedious, pain in my butt, and I LOVE doing it!
When I ran my business from home, my consignor payout was 50%! With having to run my business elsewhere and paying overhead costs for rent and insurance, I lowered it to 40%. I probably should have lowered it more but my passion is helping my supporters. 40% is the typical percentage that most consignment stores pay.
After a consignment term is up, I often buy your unsold items at a lower percentage. These are the less desirable items that I may end up having for much longer than I want, but everything eventually sells and the items are no longer taking up space in your home so everyone is happy.
Most businesses that buy your items upfront are paying you much less. They buy large amounts and often aren’t thorough in their selection process because of this. While browsing in these stores myself, I am surprised at the condition of some of these items.
I really wish I didn’t have to be taking another break from my business but unfortunately it is what it is. I will miss offering this service to our community but I’m hopeful another opportunity arises which allows me to continue and grow, as I have so many ideas I want to bring to life ❤️
