Many thanks for a United Way grant, which enabled 52 seniors from Fernie and Sparwood to have a coach trip to Waterton Park yesterday. A splendid afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel was the delightful destination, kindly organized by Elk Valley Better at Home and many ladies dressed up in fascinators for the special occasion.

Anna is from Germany and came to Eye of the Needle specifically to select yarn as a souvenir of her visit. “Summer in Fernie” by Ancient Arts was one of her choices. Anna’s tee shirt explains her passion so well! She missed seeing the September colour of the month though, which is inspired by the “I spy” series of books.

Connor and family were on Day 3 of an 11 day road trip from Victoria to Toronto. He loved this pouffé made by Fernie small business Untamed and it has gone with him to a school of music in Toronto, where he will be specializing in drums. Thanks for the glimpse into your future, Connor and taking a piece of Fernie with you.

About 120 show and shine vehicles looked especially good this year, glinting in the sunshine on Saturday. There were around 20 more of them to look at than last year too, with part of 5th Street and 3rd Ave closed to accommodate them all. Great organization in making it happen for your biggest show yet, Elk Valley Cruisers.

The launch of Anne Majic’s first book “Losing George” was a great success last Thursday evening. The invitation only event was held in the White Birch restaurant with a fascinating interview by Angie Abdou, followed by a book signing and snacks. It was wonderful to meet some of the real characters in Anne’s memoir at the event.

August colour of the month from Ancient Arts is “Where the wild things are” by Maurice Sendak, but it has sold out already. Here are some of her fabulous crochet blanket hexagons from previous months.

Not the quietest Culture Tour this year with demolition next door all weekend, but that didn’t stop the fun. Thank you to Stitched By Marissa for the crochet pop up shop and classes, and to all the visitors for coming. Sadly, the original five windows now revealed can’t be replaced as the building is less than 1.2 metres from the property line.
