The useful part is understanding what each method is doing so you can choose what works for your quilt and your routine.

What do you actually quilt? That matters.

Big bed quilts? Lots of pantographs? Detailed custom work? Quilts for customers? Mostly your own projects? That matters.

A throat measurement is helpful when comparing machines, but we think the better conversation is about what that space looks like once there is a real quilt on the frame.

We can show you what Tilly’s 26 inches looks like in use, talk about the quilting area available as your finished quilt builds on the take-up roller and help you think through how that relates to the kind of work you want to do.

Bring a quilt top if you want. Bring photos. Bring measurements. We would much rather talk about your quilts than spend the whole visit reciting machine specifications.

Quilt drop-off and pick-up are by appointment only.

Scheduling that time helps us make sure someone is available to give your quilt the attention it deserves instead of trying to rush through the details between other appointments. Just call or text us at 587-257-1872 and we will find a time that works.

Want some time on a longarm without having one at home yet?

Our longarm rental days are Wednesdays and Fridays during regular business hours, with a booked appointment.

We love having quilters come in and spend time actually quilting. It is a great way to work on your projects while becoming more comfortable with the machine.

Rental time does need to be scheduled in advance, so give us a call or text at 587-257-1872 when you are ready to book.

Longarm lighting is not the flashy feature people ask about first, but it can make a real difference once you are working across a quilt.

Better visibility helps with thread placement, ruler work and spotting little things before they become bigger things. When you come in to try a machine, pay attention to what you can actually see around the needle.

We hear versions of this all the time: ‘I feel like I should already know this.’

You do not.

Longarming has its own language, habits and little tricks and most of us learned them because somebody showed us. Ask the basic question. Ask the oddly specific question. Ask the one you have searched three different ways and still cannot sort out. Those are often our favourite conversations.

Before you book longarm rental time with us, we want you to feel comfortable using the machine.

That is why we offer Longarm Rental Certification Classes on the first Thursday of each month by appointment.

We will spend time at the machine, walk through what you need to know, and give you the opportunity to ask questions as you learn. We love teaching, especially when it helps someone feel more comfortable finishing their own quilts.

A quick reminder of our current shop hours here at Finely Quilted!

We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We close from 12:00 to 1:00 for lunch.

Saturdays are available by appointment and we are closed Sundays and statutory holidays.

If you are planning a visit and want to make sure we have plenty of time to help with your machine, quilting questions, or supplies, you are always welcome to call or text us first at 587-257-1872!
