This week is gonna be mostly gear work. Both the transmission and diff jobs are on a budget and need to be fixed right but without the cost of reman components. So the diff is getting a new ring and pinion. The transmission got a new clutch, synchro and a few misc gears. Both these units will be in excellent shape when they leave and several thousand dollars saved over swapping them out.

Hantavirus can infect the Ram diesels!! Today i pulled this transmission because the clutch was slipping under heavy load. I found mice had got into the clutch housing through the vent hole, the seeds, turds and whatever else they brought in got stirred up by the clutch and the debris became trapped, with the help of centrifugal force, under the pressure plate fingers which caused the clutch to slip. I quickly came up with a safe and effective vaccine (mesh over the vent hole) !! This clutch was not very old and only had 0.010" of wear on the disc so I cleaned everything up and will reinstall the clutch saving the customer a 2300$ Southbend clutch kit.

Its been a minute since Ive run over my creeper, but nothing good happens in the shop after 11pm! Not to mention what felt like a full upper body muscle cramp while torqeing the wheels right before the creeper got wrecked.

Tip for today! If you notice your coolant hoses are getting oily, get to a shop! Silicone hoses will sweat oil when there is oil getting into the coolant.

This morning we are sending out our reconditioned 20918 transmission for its new life in a hard working truck. This customer went for the upgrade to a 2500 ft/lb from a 1850ft/lb.

After a long week of unplanned jobs, Im finally getting started on my Tuesday job. I need to thank my customers for understanding when things like this happen. I always try to prioritize truck down situations.

We have a spiffy 18 spd reman ready to go. This is a 20918 so its suitable for the heavy haulers, but will work in place of a 18918 too. It has a two yr warranty, same as an Eaton reman would.
