Shop/health upgrade!

My COPD has been pretty sensitive lately and so I felt it was time for a dust management upgrade.

While my shopvac/dust-deputy combo has done me right since I started this adventure, the CFM suck power always leaves a little to be desired, and while it keeps up just fine with the CNC mill and smaller things, it cannot in any way keep up to the planner/table saw/band saw or drum sander. and in truth is louder than most of the tools even when packed away under the bench with sound baffling.

Today I assembled my new Hepa Dust collection system. a 1HP Craftex CX404 with this CXHEPA1 filter canister upgrade. This will totally remove the find dust that usually escapes the shop vac system.

and in comparison, this is so quiet I can hear my machines run!!!!
This runs with a 4" dust port and increases the CFM considerably to somewhere around 800CFM!!!

I have been too sick to leave the house for almost a week, so no chance to get out to the shop. I have not been working on any guitars for a while as I have the kitchen cabinets project eating up my time so i thought I would post a few shots of that work.

I also have a new Tool addition, I picked up an open ended drum sander that will be so very sweet for taking bodies down (and even cabinet doors lol)

In the kitchen cabinet project, I have tacked the first cupboard and drawer module carcass. A wild learning experience to be sure.

During this project I really missed my dad, he did this stuff in his sleep and his guidance could have saved me weeks of time, thousands of dollars, many square feet of birch plywood and bleeding fingers and on and on, (Miss you pops) and I think i made every stupid mistake you can make, but in the fashion of a real wood worker, I did my best to "Make mistakes, Fix them and move on"

I am also grateful for all the real world experience this work gives me, every mistake is a lesson learned towards making beautiful guitars!!!!

No guitars were completed in 2024, however I learned more that I can say. The last furious project that dominated my time and the shop was a Christmas gift for my Brother and his Partner. From Concept to completion. Base is Swamp Ash, Font Inlays are Smoked Eucalyptus, Hummingbird Inlays are Royal Black wood. Treated in mineral oil, then finished in beeswax. First cutting board, lots of do overs, lots of learning mistakes and a few near showstopper fails but came in under the wire by 2 hours before hitting the road, and this dictated some corner cutting at the end.
