My third ‘offering’ for this year’s virtual craft market is not new, but I really need to sell these to make room in my little studio so I am putting them on sale. $5 for 6 cards. They are cheap n’ cheerful blank inside cards with pop art images of ocean life. Imagine Andy Warhol at Ingonish beach and you will get this:

One set is: Gabarus lighthouse, seal, big mouth cod, laughing gull, sand dollar, squid. Second set is fishing boat, mackerel, lobster, whale tail, ocean waves, sea urchin.

I can mix and match.

Purchase of calendars and candles over $100 will receive a free set! Gee whiz!

This year’s special offering for our virtual craft show is hand-cast and poured shell candles! I have taken real local shells from my beach, cast them in silicone, then created molds for candles. They are soy/beeswax/paraffin blends, and have a burn time from 1 hour to 8 depending on size. Pefect for your beach house, seafood dinner party, or oceanside gathering (real or virtual).

I have two boxed sets in limited quantities - 3 different large moonsnails in a box or an assortment of 6 different shells. $25 per box. Ready for pick up in various locations across Cape Breton, or mail to you. Packaged in a nice 5 x 10” recycled board box with labels and ribbon.

Drop me an email at [email protected] or message me. Quantities are somewhat limited.

Hello friends,

I am back with another ocean-themed calendar! This one is simply called “Maritime”. It has a number of my favourite images from over the years. All in some way deal with the textures of our maritime life.

As per usual, the price remains at $10. If you are on Cape Breton Island there will be a number of island-wide pick up locations. For the rest of you, I am happy to post the calendars to you or someone on your shopping list for $2.50, anywhere in Canada. They are small lovely gifts for those who love the ocean but cannot be near it this year.

Please message or email me at [email protected] if you would like to buy one. Let the festive season begin!

I have fallen deeply into silicone...casting!

Presently working on a large-scale marine installation which will become, with some luck (and engineering), a performance piece this fall at the Studio. In the meantime, my bestie Irene suggested making candles using some of the smaller moulds. My first 2 candles, a 10 ridged whelk and a moonsnail (from Gabarus beach), turned out well. About 4 hours of clean burn time on each. Oh so much fun. Wax is such a lovely material to cast - it has a glow from inside and is so forgiving. My floors and work tables, well, that’s a different story...

Sometimes, in the studio, waiting for inspiration, I sort through my collections. This one is from the year I saw faces in driftwood. Note the glass eyes on some!

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to the Gabarus grand opening of The Mermaid food truck and the open house for Ye Olde Hall Pink House summer studio. We had a wonderful day! The Mermaid sold out early and I had such wonderful supportive comments from 'locals', friends and family. Being a bit reclusive myself, it was just what I needed to encourage me to make some plans for exhibits, classes, events and a maybe a party or two. I will keep you posted! Thank you everyone. You are the best. Gabarus RULES!

After a very very long social media vacation I am back with some exciting news!

Cape Breton's newest grooviest food truck "The Mermaid" is coming to Gabarus for Sunday lunches and dinners! They will be parking adjacent to to the Old Gabarus Hall where the Pink House Studio is now housed.

They will be serving the most delicious seafood-forward (but not exclusive) food and we will be opening the Old Gabarus Hall for people to come and sit and eat out of the rain, sleet, fog and wind (not that we get much of that in Gabarus).

Please link to and LIKE their site for further updates and specifics regarding the Gabarus Grand Opening!

A little brunch spot in Sydney serving Breakfast, Lunch, Coffee and Treats! Open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 2pm!
