Hi, I'm Max (they/she)

By day I'm a traveling speech therapist, currently working in remote fly-in First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario. This work has taught me not only about cultural humility, but also what it actually means to earn trust with kids, youth and within a whole community. Continuing to show up matters.

I'm also a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). After a little break, I'm soon to be returning to building back up my final placement hours in order to graduate.

Here are a few things that shape how I show up in a room with someone:

I'm q***r-identifying, and I support 2SLGBTQ+ folks, it's not just a line I add in a bio. I also identify as Neurodivergent, which means I work from a neurodiversity-affirming lens. Someone's neurodivergence isn't something that needs to be "fixed", it's something that I work with individual for them to understand themselves more. I try to bring the same understanding to autoimmune conditions and varying disabilities, because a lot of those experiences are invisible and way too often dismissed.

Art of any form has always been a tool that gets me to places words cannot. From drawing, digital collage, sculpture, and fun play. I work with all ages, kids through adults, but I feel a particular pull towards supporting women through a feminist, trauma-informed lens.

If you work with me, don't expect polished. Expect go-with the flow, mess, and meaning making that shows up in the mess... that's kind of the point.

Soon to be returning to art therapy client work. Stay in tune!

Want to learn more about my life as a traveling speech therapist?

I started this job in September of 2023. In the beginning, I rotated between one of three different North-Western ON remote (fly in) First Nation communities. Since June of 2024 I've been in the same amazing community nearly every two weeks.

If you want a sneak peak into my speech therapy sessions, here's look in the picture below for the absolutely LOVED blocks and figurines I use in session to encourage play pretend!

I take 3 flights each way (to head to work and to get back home). It is a remote fly in community meaning you can only fly in (other than drive in the winter on the winter road).

If you have any questions regarding my life as a traveling speech therapist feel free to comment below or send me a private message! My team is always looking to expand!

Art therapy offers more than just a creative outlet. 🎨

Research has shown that engaging in creative expression through art therapy can have numerous positive impacts on a persons mental well being.

Sometimes words aren’t enough; art can give shape, colour, and space to the feelings we’re still learning how to understand.

Here, we believe creativity can be a gentle guide toward reflection, healing, and connection. No artistic experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to explore.

What’s one creative activity that helps you unwind or reconnect with yourself? ✨

Friday Feeling: Gratitude.

Seriously, just look at this view. I took this photo the other day and it just hits different. It's a reminder that even when the week feels chaotic, there is always this kind of stunning, quiet beauty happening all around us.

Today, I’m putting everything else aside to just be grateful for these moments. What a gift. I hope you can take two minutes to look up, look out a window, and find one simple thing you’re thankful for today. It changes the whole vibe.

Take a moment from your busy lives and enjoy the sunrise!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Here's a bit about me!

I’m a Northern Ontario-based Student Art Therapist with a background as a Speech Therapist and a passion for creative, trauma-informed care. As a q***r and neurodivergent Art Therapy Student, I bring lived experience and deep empathy to my work—especially with neurodivergent individuals no matter their age. I've worked with young kids, youth, and adults of varying ages.

My practice is grounded in feminist, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based values, with a strong belief in the healing power of art-making to explore identity, healing, and self-expression. I offer virtual and in person sessions for children, teens, and adults, with a special focus on supporting women, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, and those navigating trauma.

I enjoy using a variety of modalities—like drawing, digital collage, and sculpture—to help clients access their inner world and express what words sometimes can’t. I bring a playful and intuitive energy to the therapy space, where therapy isn’t about making perfect pictures—it’s about finding meaning in the mess.

If you're interested in Virtual Art Therapy, you could book an appointment with me through the Virtual Art Therapy Clinic at the following link: https://vatc.ca/ (Click the "Get Me Started" button and complete the self assessment then it will list you the Student Art Therapists that are available).

Work-in-Progress Wednesday

Confession time: This is what my desk actually looks like most days! 😬 It's a beautiful, creative chaos that perfectly matches my brain when I'm in a deep virtual work day as an SLP. This is what it looks like to be a part-time virtual art therapy student and full-time virtual SLP—not always clean, but always creating!

Are you a creative chaos person or a neat-and-tidy planner? Let me know in the comments! 👇
