I made this board by starting with Canadian Hard maple and Purple Heart. After carving the handle, I applied a Japanese technique called Shou Sugi Ban.

Shou Sugi Ban is a striking method of preserving the board by charring it with an open flame and then coating it with a natural oil. By applying this technique to the maple, I was able to create a sun kissed look around the Purple Heart Center.

Enjoying a cup of coffee on the deck with our Roasted Ash serving board.
