Today, November 27th, marks 30 years for Ernie King Music in Goderich!
It seems like a lifetime ago that the kid version of me opened a tiny shop in an alley behind the post office, and started down the road that brought us to where we now are.
I had almost no idea what I was doing -the only thing I could play was the radio- but I had the support of the Wingham location, which was twenty years old at the time (making Ernie King Music now a half century old!). Ernie was still with us in those days, and his knowledge and reputation cannot be understated. But many of the local musicians took me under their wings and offered support as well as knowledge. As one good friend noted, he could go elsewhere to a better shop, or he could help guide this kid to build a shop that both he and the community could benefit from, and we both come out ahead. I am grateful to all of the musicians who stuck with me through the formative years, as well as all of the ones who grew up with me.
I now find myself in our fourth location in Goderich, still growing, still learning, and continuing to build new customer relationships. Many of the customers that I have met over the years have become good friends, as well.
The Wingham location closed in 2019, allowing my parents to semi retire. Dave still comes in part time and enjoys doing repairs, and Marie still does the books and helps out at the shop occasionally.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Ernie King Music over the years. I look forward to what the future brings, and hope to serve the music community for many years to come.
