A nice example of the Purple Scapolite found in skarn pockets around Gooderham, Ontario.

The main crystal face clearly shows the sharp vertical growth lines and blocky structure characteristic of the locality. While most regional scapolite occurs as a dull white or gray material, these Grenville pockets produced a very distinct lavender-to-purple variety🔮.

This specimen features a gorgeous, heavily striated group of pale lilac/purple scapolite (var. marialite) crystals crowned by a cluster of contrasting pale green tremolite.

Collected from the historic Highway 507 roadcut near Gooderham, Ontario. These pieces are famous for their unique geological heritage and intense yellow-orange fluorescence under UV light!🔦

With the road cut being severely depleted since the 90s, specimens like this are an irreplaceable piece of Ontario’s geological history!⛰️🇨🇦
