Introducing Tom Green: Canoeing Guy

A couple months back Tom reached out wanting to get into canoe tripping. We figured that's something we can help with, right?

We went from watching him sing about tiny salmon chasing an impossible dream in "Road Trip," to helping him get set up for a backcountry trip with the help of Badger Paddles... for those who dig the water. Check out Tom's first tripping video with his buddy Jody and his dog Charley (who had the time of her life). It's a great look at what backcountry tripping in Canada is like, especially for someone just getting back into it or looking to gain more experience.

Endurance athlete and filmmaker Chris Prouse recently set a new unassisted speed record for the "Meanest Link" in Algonquin Park. The route, widely considered one of the hardest backcountry routes in Canada's oldest provincial park, involves 420 km of paddling and 68 km of portaging, taking you from the docks at Oxtongue Lake where Algonquin Outfitters and Swift Algonquin began, to each Algonquin Outfitters location throughout the park: Oxtongue Lake, Brent, Opeongo and Huntsville. “The Link” was dreamed up by Alex Hurley and Gord Baker in the summer of 2004 at Algonquin Outfitters, and was created in honour of Bill's father, Bill Swift Sr. (also known as 'Mean Dude' or 'Meanest' in Algonquin lore).

In this video, Bill and Chris chat about the history of the route, the rules for completing 'The Link', how paddlers are stewards for the Park and help preserve its history and mystique, approaching such a daunting trip, the training involved, and how the Cruiser 17.8 became the ideal boat to set the new record.

You may have noticed from our post the other day that our factory does amazing repair work.

We know many paddlers are headed out for Labour Day long weekend, but after that we start to see repairs trickle in for the end of the season. If you've got a boat that needs TLC, reach out to us to arrange drop-off and we'll make sure your beloved boat is fixed up and ready to explore the wilderness once again.
