Today, we’re sharing the journey of one of our talented artists. Andrea Art & Anne has a story about taking a chance, finding community, growing a business, and discovering that sometimes all it takes is one person believing in you.
Here’s her story…
Here you go!
I still remember how nervous I was bringing my work into True North Made for the first time 5 years ago, wondering if my community would connect with what I created. Being offered a spot in the store made me feel like someone truly believed in me and my work, and at that stage of my journey, that meant everything. It was the first store my work was ever showcased in!
Since becoming one of the makers, my work has grown alongside me as an artist and my business has grown in ways I never expected. It still feels surreal seeing my jewelry displayed in a storefront beside so many talented makers I admire. I’m constantly inspired by the creativity around me. Being part of the store has also become a huge part of what allows me to continue doing what I do as an artist. The support and income from the store has helped make it possible for me to keep creating and growing my business over the years.
One of my favourite parts of volunteering at the store has been overhearing customers compliment my work while standing at my shelf, not realizing I’m the artist. I’ve also loved hearing people talk about shipping my artwork across the world to loved ones.
It has also changed the way I connect with Sudbury itself. Through True North Made, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for handmade work and for the people and places that make Northern Ontario feel like home. The store celebrates everything that makes this place special, and it feels like the perfect home for my Northern Ontario inspired hand-painted jewelry. I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of it 💕
