It’s been ages since I’ve had a chance to do a Fibre Friday so here it is! I’m doing Fall Vibes for this one. 🍂🎃

The last few years I’ve been making pumpkins (and other gourds) to decorate the store with. It’s been so fun to mix the colours and stitches with free knit and crochet designs I found on Ravelry.

We got a shipment of roving in the other day, so I took a little bit home to play with. I Googled images for needle felted ghosts and then made up my own. SO MUCH FUN! It was a fun small amount of time of being creative and just adding on more fibre until I got to a look I was happy with it. I’m hoping to try out an acorn this weekend.

If you’re ready to play with fibre, stop in to get some colours and the tools to make your own little collection of Fall needle felted objects. If you’ve never done it before, it’s super easy and I’m happy to show you.

Any of the above ideas would be great to play with at our Fall Making Party too. Join your fibre friends for the day (10:30-3:30) and enjoy some time working on whatever fall-themed projects you would like. Cost is $5. Contact the store to reserve your seat.

You could be wearing this in no time.

The Simple Hug Cardi is one of my favourite knits. Designed during the pandemic by Cozy Up Knits—three sisters from Alberta—this easy, versatile garment quickly became a favourite. I’ve made five versions so far, including striped, solid, fuzzy, and scrappy styles, and I’m always imagining the next one. (They’re all at the store if you ever want to see them.)

Worked from the bottom up on 6.5 and 8 mm needles, the Simple Hug Cardi features an easy, shaping-free design with generous ease and as many colours as you like.

The original pattern pairs DK-weight yarn with mohair for a soft, airy, warm fabric with a beautiful halo. Add character to a solid colour by pairing it with Naughton Yarns’ hand-dyed multicoloured mohair. Prefer one strand? Use worsted-weight yarn for a smooth, cozy finish. Either option lets you customize the cardigan’s texture, warmth, and style. For a softer halo, try our Ultra Alpaca line.

Not ready for a sweater? Make a vest instead. Depending on the fit, it can be worn alone or layered. Without sleeves, a vest uses less yarn and works up faster—so you may be tempted to make more than one.

One of my favourite designers released the Butter Vest this week. This charming top-down pattern uses sport or DK weight yarn and accommodates bust sizes from 30 to 63 inches. Its top-down construction lets you try it on as you knit, ensuring a good fit and allowing you to adjust the length. Here are a few yarn options:
• Ultra Alpaca Light: 1–9 skeins (50 g each)
• Naughton Yarns DK: 1–5 skeins
• Vintage DK: 1–6 skeins
• Estelle DK: 1–5 skeins

I didn’t consider knitting a vest when I first started making garment pieces because they weren’t part of my usual wardrobe. That changed after I made the Friday Slipover by PetiteKnit, a versatile piece I can layer over short- or long-sleeved T-shirts throughout the year. For this Sweater MAL/School, I chose Asa Buchta’s Morel vest. It’s knitting up so quickly that I’m keeping it at the store—and already planning more vests.

Just a reminder…. Our Small Project Summer Bingo fun is over. If you worked on projects between June and August and got at least a line on your card, I need to see your card to put the entries into the draw. Every line gets you an entry, and a full card gets you an extra entry accompanied by $10 Bella Bucks.

Ways to “show” me your card by closing on Saturday, September 12:

• Post a final picture in our Sweet Yarnies’ group on Facebook
• Email or message me a picture of it
